I was afraid that Koryn would not do well on iTunes and surprised that the Earth Song cracked the top 100. Does not change much to the fact that India was for the nth time the worst performer – although she did substantially better than in past weeks.
My impression is that Meghan doesn’t want to be a country singer anymore, and I suspect she resisted any attempt to put her in that box. That may have lessened her chances of winning (not that I think she had a chance anyway), but at this point in her career she has to go for what she wants, and if she came on the show to re-brand herself, so be it. In any case, I think it’s highly unlikely that anyone past the age of 23 can achieve stardom in today’s music world, so I can’t imagine how a win would have done any more for Meghan’s career than it did for the other “older” winners of the show.
I wonder how great a singer Jackson Browne or James Taylor were at 15-16 years old. Will he remain in a niche of nostalgia music or find song writers who can launch him into a more contemporary sound? Can he write his own music…on his own or with a partner which seems to be a big key to superstardom. Will he be a superstar? Maybe, maybe not.
But watching his talent emerge on screen, live week to week has been fascinating…what the show should really be about imo…not necessarily a second chance to professionals working but unnoticed.
I wouldn’t necessarily call Sawyer’s music not contemporary as there has been a resurgence of the singer/songwriter and renewed popularity of folk and Americana music among younger people.
Pharell is an example of natural charisma. He doesn’t hit every note in the way my ears like but he moves smoothly and he engages. I think that is what is called “it.” Snoop Dog, definitely not hitting all the notes but also has this swagger that makes you believe that he is.
At this point I’m hoping India goes home. But I do think her latest performances have been pretty good. I wouldn’t have been sorry to see Meghan go home.
