I liked Adley over RayLynn. But you have to remember Blake from last year. He was very much into being “Papa Bear” to the super young singers. Not surprising that he chose RayLynn, who did have good moments in her singing last night.

I’m glad that I don’t have to make the decisions when it comes to these battle rounds. Most of the battles were close enough that there wasn’t a slam dunk winner. I would have chosen the military gal over the Hawaiian gal, Adley over RayLynn.

These back stories are getting to be a bit much. Does EVERYBODY feel that like they have to be a star to bring their whole family out of poverty?

I’ve enjoyed this show a lot, but I didn’t see last season. I don’t watch American Idol or even DWTS, but I like the format of this one. I think the back stories are unnecessary, however, but I guess they think it adds to the drama. I’d rather hear more performances.
I disagreed with a couple of the picks, but I do think that the judges have a lot of knowledge in working with these singers that might influence how they choose in the end. Some may have a lot of potential that isn’t necessarily visible from just one performance. I’m thinking of singers like RayLynn. Maybe Blake believes he can really contribute to this young person’s career in a way that he couldn’t with Adley after working with her for a couple of weeks. At 17, with such poise- I was actually pretty impressed with her. With a good coach, perhaps Blake’s wife, her voice might really develop into something lovely. Just musing…

I was sad to see that Anthony didn’t make it. I liked them both, but something about his personality really got to me.

I think Adam has the strongest team. It will be fun to watch.

I just rewatched Chris vs Monique, and I have to take back my earlier remark about him. He was great. I actually think RaeLynn has more potential than Adley, and find her much more interesting. In their duet I just wanted Adley to shut up so that I could hear where RaeLynn was going with it. I really hated the “song”–if you want to call it that–sung by Tony and Chris, and I thought they were pretty much even and sounded very similar. The Chessa vs military gal duet didn’t do much for me either.

^I was a little surprised that Angie didn’t get picked over Cheesa. I thought Angie was not only the better singer but the fact that she was in the military would garner her more votes.

I agree with the head shaking over Raylynn’s pick. I have to say, I was suspicious that since Miranda helped to coach her, maybe Blake didn’t want to diss this little mini-Miranda? I can be so jaded!

I was surprised that RaeLynn was Blake’s choice too. The first thing that came to my mind was Taylor Swift…pretty young blonde country singer who often sings flat in her live performances but yet is wildly popular. Could Blake be seeing Rae Lynn as the next Taylor Smith type performer?

The great thing I like about Taylor Swift is that she writes her own stuff. Does RaeLynn also write her own songs?

BTW, I thought Christiana’s hat was ridiculous and thank goodness a boob didn’t pop out whenever the cameras shot her from the side…Cee Lo and Team Red and his cat–what a hoot! That guy is such a showman.

Doubtful, but who knows. Taylor Swift is a good songwriter and knows what her audience wants but it’s not her great vocal ability that has propelled her to stardom. It’s the look, the wholesome all American girl appeal, personality and great promoters/management/PR. Maybe there’s hope for Rae Lynn.

Can you even call that thing a hat? It looked like a flying saucer. No doubt Christina likes to show off “the girls” from every angle.
I like Cee Lo too.

I DVRd the show and finally watched last night. Anthony and Jesse were amazing (tried to download their duet on iTunes). I wish Christina had not put them together . actually I wish one of them had chosen to be on another team. I hope Anthony comes back next season (if that is allowed). It was obvious ALL four of the team leaders were blown away by that duet.

The rest of the show confirmed my impression during the audition round . last seasons talent was better.

Again, this season I dont understand Blakes picks in the battle round - RaeLynn was the worst performer of the night. Also I thought Angie was the clear winner over Cheesa.

Well, Blake did pretty well last season–I thought that his two final performers were the most interesting of the bunch (Dia and Xenia). Maybe there is method to his madness…

I thought Angie sang better than Chessa, but Chessa had a more distinctive voice, and kind of drowned her out. jshain, I think the coaches are really interested in who they think could actually have a professional career as a singer, and the fact that Angie was in the military is completely irrelevant to that. Maybe she could have milked that for votes from the public, had she gotten that far. Personally, I would have picked Angie, but her military service has nothing to do with it.

Blake likes to pick people he thinks he can do something with. Remember last year, when he let two very strong singers go in favor of the girls he thought he could help. I don’t think there is a whole lot of upside potential with Adley. RaeLynn is another matter.

I’m glad someone else shares my take on Chris. I feel like he using his mothers illness to his advantage, to garner sympathy points. This week, right before his performance, he mentioned again, how wonderful it would be to win this thing for his mother. So he won, and then I watched his body language as he greeted his family…he embraced his wife/girlfriend first, and then embraced the rest of the family in a group hug…I would think that if his feelings/concerns for his mother were genuine, he would have sought her out and embraced her the biggest/best. Plus, his ego is way, way, way to big for my liking.
The sooner he goes, the better I’ll like the show.

That indeed may be the case. Then he is being disingenuous to the singers he selects in the audition round that are already strong and not in need of his nurturing (especially if another judge was also pursuing the same singer for their team).

I’m kind of tiring of these battle rounds and would like to see them come to an end already. There were a couple of good battles, but even more not-so-good ones. I probably liked the opening battle the best. It was Sera and Geoff’s “Chain of Fools”, with Sera winning. I don’t know, maybe I just like the song choice. I thought Jamar had a really good performance, tonight’s winner who performed last.

One more night and then no more battle rounds— yippee. Judges already know ahead of time who’s moving on in each battle…

The whole battle round business is so fake. From the way the judges manipulate the match-ups and song selections, it’s obvious they’ve chosen who to advance long before the actual battle–obvious to the viewers and to the singers, too. (Poor Sarah Golden and Jamie Lono…) And then the way they pretend to hem and haw about their final selection is ridiculous. That said, I do enjoy the guest coaches’ critiques–they all seem to have interesting input and reveal a lot about the technique that goes into styling a song. But I disagreed with at least half the picks tonite. Charlotte Sometimes’ voice just grates and Lindsay Pavao wandered off key so much it was painful. Bleah. I hope they both get voted off quickly.
