Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

I so would not have kept Korin. I don’t think she has the chops yet, and no one should be left who isn’t there yet. My poor ears just cannot forgive notes that are not quite what they should be.

I have never downloaded any of the songs on iTunes. Do they autotune before they post them?

I can not find anything to suggest that they do. I would be a little surprised if they did, since it would kind of be tampering or changing what the artist has produced.

Speaking of iTunes, here are the latest rankings of Voice artists who performed 11/9 and 11/10, still in the competition:

  1. Jordan "Halo"
  2. Emily Ann "In The Garden"
  3. Madi "Songbird"
  4. Zach "Brand New Girlfriend"
  5. Barrett "I Drive Your Truck"
  6. Jeffery "Say You Love Me"
  7. Evan "Overjoyed"
  8. Amy "The Way You Look Tonight"
  9. Braiden "Everything I Own"
  10. Mark "What Do You Mean"

Korin and Shelby were not listed.

The iTunes versions are studio versions, not the live versions, so they are “produced.” Whether that actually involves autotuning is up for speculation but they can and probably do a good bit of tweaking. Obviously, they can use multiple takes.

I haven’t posted here yet, but I’ve been reading. I started watching The Voice this season because my DS is a freshman at the LAC where Amy graduated and they sent a link to her blind audition. I loved it so I started watching. There are many competitors left still that I just don’t get. Braiden was pretty awful, although he was cute in a teen idol sort of way, and that was a terrible song choice (even though I had that album in HS, dating myself). Emily Ann is off tune and gives me the willies with her wholesome good looks and much-talked-up talent. I agree with whoever said they just weren’t feeling the love for Madi - too much stuff going on in her songs. I thought Jordan was great when he did Adele, but then to return to do Beyonce seemed a bit overwrought. I don’t see what sort of future he has in music and I hope he doesn’t win. I still love Amy, but I think she should pick a song that has a bit more pyrotechnics next time: she has too little, Madi has too much. WOW! I have surprisingly more opinions about this than I thought. I didn’t mention several because I honestly can’t remember who they are!

Overwrought … perfect word!! That is what I have felt about a lot of the performances. I am getting tired of the whole emotional thing. I love a good ballad, but music can also be fun.

H and I cringed when Braiden was singing this week. I love that song, but he was not nailing it, IMO. I have liked his voice in other songs, though. And I love Jordan’s voice, but I do agree that his future in music is … well, probably Broadway or the like, which isn’t all bad. I remember how much I liked Adam Lambert’s voice, but I thought he probably wouldn’t make it in contemporary music. He has found a cool niche, and I think Jordan could do something different & cool, too.

I like Amy, and while I liked her performance this week, I couldn’t help but think that I have heard lots of teenage girls sing jazz standards at high school choir concerts & talent shows … and her song choice just made her seem like one of those girls.

I assumed kelsmom was referring to “Auto-Tune” when I suggested they didn’t use it. According to the link below, it is used most of the time to tweak recordings you hear on the radio. It appears I am mistaken.

Speaking of song choice that PhxRising mentions (welcome by the way!), I believe the songs each artist performed this week were all selected by their coaches. I personally hope they change this in future seasons so that the artist controls their destiny, if he/she so chooses, once the “live rounds” begin. Anyone remember Keith Semple’s song choice and performance this week?

Amy doesn’t make me think of HS talent shows. She makes me think of Bobby Short at the Carlyle.

I have mixed thoughts on the results. My team is still in tact, but I don’t see a clear winner yet.

  1. Amy: still on. Needs to spice it up.
  2. Evan: removed. Didn’t like that he re-used that song.
  3. Shelby: still on.
  4. Victor: removed
  5. Korin: removed.
  6. Mark: re-added. Like his overall style.
  7. Zachary: I became country after that performance.
  8. Jordan. Can sing anything.

I don’t know, I don’t think Amy and Zach are going to make it that far. Amy is just boring as can be, can’t she sing something halfway current? And that last performance of Zach’s kind of gave me the willies, it just seemed weird. He’s a nice looking kid, but the eww factor was going against him, in my book.

I think they are putting too much makeup on Zach. He looks like a Ken doll (in a plasticy kind of way). But I loved his last performance.

I’m surprised no one is commenting on the Blake and Gwen “love child” that may (or may not) be on the way. It was all over the internet yesterday.

I don’t think Amy is boring at all. She’s a great singer but to make it to the next level I think she’ll have to do something with more pizzazz. So many of the rest of them have no subtlety at all in their performances; perhaps Amy has too much. @busdriver11: Do you have two Cavaliers? We have a ruby who will be a year old next week and he’s a delight. My photo is of our Aussie who is now 10, although she was much younger when that photo was taken.

Yes, @PhxRising, two Cavaliers. They are 11 1/2 and 8, but they act like puppies. I love rubies, they are so beautiful, and seem rare. Love these dogs, and your Aussie looks very sweet!

I just wish Amy would sing something current and stay away from elevator music!

Jerome Kern is elevator music?

Perhaps she just makes it all sound like elevator music to me. I guess people have different tastes.

I didn’t like Amy’s delivery of that song. Her face was totally expressionless and the waving arm was distracting. She just doesn’t look comfortable in her own skin.

Yes, that really was inexplicable. Her song was painful.

@alwaysamom – perhaps gwen felt bad for making korin take her glasses off to sing a few weeks ago?!

my D10 and i got 10 out of the 12 contestants right . . . we’ll keep watching on dvr, but our favorite parts are over.

I thought both Braiden and Amy did a great job to start things off tonight.

I thought Braiden did a better job than Amy, even though I like Amy a lot also.
