That’s definitely valid, @busdriver11, but I gave up on American Idol years ago.
Last couple of years, you sure weren’t missing anything, doschicos. They seemed to really gravitate towards very young singers, and passed up a lot of talent to get many young and attractive finalists.
I’m enjoying the talent this year. I agree that I could do without Miley. I wonder if she is on the show to redeem her reputation. She doesn’t seem to add much to the the singers’ performances.
I really like several of the singers, but no one stands out as a clear favorite, unlike years past. I’m kind of partial to Adam’s team this year.
musicmom, Caroline Burns knocked our Katherine Ho on Monday night’s show, but we did not get to see it on the West Coast. Did anyone see her in the East? Will NBC recap her performance, from Monday night, on Tuesday? A real head scratcher on why they omitted her…
For me, Bryan Bautista was the biggest surprise. Enjoyed the other Brian, Brian Nhira, also. Wish Kata Hay didn’t growl so much. Hoping Christina grounds her growl next week!
I personally have really enjoyed watching Miley this season and think, overall, she’s been a very effective guest coach. Also am enjoying the “new and improved” Christina. Has motherhood changed her for the better?
I will post the iTunes rankings from the Monday show later this morning. So far the only one who hit the top-200 was Caity Peters.
There are so many good vocalists that I would like to see on my team, my head is spinning.
I have been pleasantly surprised my Miley. I think she has given good advice to the singers. Caroline was only given a short segment of winning her round. My team is still intact but I have quite a few I like as well but can’t decide who to kick off. Still glad there isn’t a clear winner. I actually see improvement in many of them.
I admit I was so disappointed to hear Miley Cyrus was going to be on the show and worse yet, become a judge next season. After watching her on a few shows, I believe she really does give good advice. It’s surprising! The way she dresses is a little strange. How about her voice? Has it always been that deep? It almost sounds like she’s a smoker.
Count me among the pleasantly surprised by Miley crowd. I think she’s given good advice. That outfit with the big heart is awful, though, and it looks uncomfortable! Her speaking voice sounds uncomfortable too.
I’m with eyemamom: my team is still intact, but there are other people I really like, but I can’t figure out who to kick off to make room for them. So for now I’m standing pat.
Person most likely to win who does nothing for me: Mary Sarah. Another one of Blake’s narrow range country girls.
Person I’d like to add to my team just because he’s great, not because I think he’ll win: Laith.
And then there’s Caity/Katy/Kata, Bryan, Shalyah…
iTunes ranking top-200 from Monday:
Caity Peters “Leave Your Lover” #196 That’s the only one.
I’m also a Laith Al-Saadi fan. I am not sure I will add him to my team because Tamar is still looming large for me. The “over-the-hill” gang of Alisan, Laith, and Tamar make a very formidable trio! My team is also still intact. The one who is “on the bubble” at this stage for me is Emily Keener. She’ll need a solid performance in the lives to stay on my team.
I’m going to try and watch this show. Which singer should I be looking out for?
There are probably at least 10 “contenders” this season.
Personal fav is Owen Danoff.
Speaking of Owen…I was in the grocery store a few days ago and “Afternoon Delight” was playing on the sound system, not the original artist, but I probably wouldn’t even have noticed had it not been for The Voice.
note to raclut, Owen’s dad was in the band that recorded “Afternoon Delight.”
@jshain, Emily is probably my #1 personal favorite. Her rendition of Big Yellow Taxi was the next best thing to Joni herself. I love her voice, so flexible and interesting and expressive and lovely, and she does NOT depend on growling and belting.
This is the first season I’ve watched the Voice and started watching after reading an article about Owen. I liked his dad’s music (he co-wrote “Take Me Home Country Roads” and Starland Vocal Band was really pretty good beyond “Afternoon Delight.”) Owen is also a good songwriter; you can hear some of them on his website. He seems to have a little Paul Simon in him.
Emily is my other favorite. I’m with you @Consolation, what a great cover “Big Yellow Taxi.” I’m a major Joni fan, and Emily can hold her own with her.
And @raclut, if I recall correctly, you’re in the DC area like me. Owen is a DC native and just moved to New York. He lives with actor Jesse Eisenberg and his sister, Owen’s girlfriend, there, and Bill Danoff still lives in DC.
I’m really looking forward to the live shows starting this Monday and Tuesday. For some of the newer viewers, you can vote for your favorite artist starting next week and, more importantly, any artist whose song for that week is ranked in the iTunes top-10 receives a 10 times multiplyer of their votes.
For those of us playing on the app…your contestants get locked in Wednesday at noon. The longer you have a contestant the more points you get. I think there are a few ways to play, picking your favorites or picking who will win. The good news for entertainment value is I have more than 5 people I think could do well.
Anyone watching now? I think most are stepping up tonight. I think Adam is really good. He’s staying on my team.
I am watching right now!
The judges are giving everyone praise, no criticisms.
I DVR it then start in like 30 minutes late and skip what the judges say, because of just what @bookworm said.
