Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Darn, I missed laith doing white room!

Enjoyed the original songs by alisan and adam. The duets so far have been okay, except for Pharrell and Hannah. Kinda disappointed in adam and laith, they could have done so much more. Laith 's song is good. I’ll be astonished if Hannah can write a song. But her version of the police was great.

Also loved the Lowe s commercial. I’m such a sap!

Pharrell and Hannah were painful.

I really enjoyed Laith’s second solo performance. Overall, a great night for him.

Watching via DVR, agree Pharrell and Hannah are downright painful.

Adam has been my second favorite after Laith but I prefer when he doesn’t sing country. He’s definitely going for the country fan votes tonight.

Laith just outshines Adam.

Wow. Alisan really brought it.

Chills.

Alisan was awesome!

Petty, but if I was coaching Allison, instead of such a well known west side story song, I would pick my fav from Carousel or another show. I just don’t think Broadway show tunes are the way to go.

Experts, I willingly await your responses.

I agree, bookworm. An old Broadway tune!!??

I loved all the duets except for Pharrell and Hannah. It was nice to see that they really spent the time practicing them. Usually they sound like they were thrown together.

I have been watching off the DVR and doing some fast forwarding ever since the blind auditions ended. Tonight I was finishing a book and just let the whole thing run live as I read. Glad I did as I also really loved the Lowe’s commercial. I thought the whole show was good, but I am definitely hoping Laith wins. However, the only thing I can predict with a reasonable level of confidence is that it won’t be Hannah.

I love Broadway show tunes and I think they can have a great impact on these type shows. I still remember Fantasia singing “Summertime” on American Idol and Susan Boyle singing “I Dreamed a Dream” on that other show. I think Alisan might just win it.

There’s a Place for Us is a “show tune” like O Mio Babbino Caro is a show tune.

I knew Hannah couldn’t write a song by herself. If she wins I will just spit.

I think Leith is my first choice, followed by Allison.

I just listened to White Room on the NBC website.

I then went back and changed my 10 vote from Alisan to Laith. I gave her 8 and Adam 7. (I’e been giving each of them 10 until now.) Laith just crushed it. I was thinking how much the band must like playing with a musician like him. At least I hope they do!

Honestly, I would be happy if any of those three won. I think ALisan may need it more, because I’d be very surprised if the careers of Adam and Laith didn’t get a huge boost from this anyway.

Laith is a fantastic guitarist as well. isn’t he?
I do hope he wins although it makes me nervous that he had to be saved last week to make it to the final.

I’m not sure who I liked the best tonight. Alisan had been a favorite, but I had to mute “Somewhere.” I have no tolerance for singing that song any way except legit. And it’s a duet. Hard to forgive people who ruin that song and that includes Lea MIchele and Idina Menzel. I think I’m torn between Laith and Adam. I’m not a country music fan but Adam spent a lot of time singing in Baltimore so I’m a little biased.

As soon as I heard Alisan was going to sing “Somewhere”, I knew we were in for something awful. That woman has no sense of how a song is meant to be sung. I thought she sounded pretty good on her original song because she reigned it in, but her overwrought, over embellished and screamy version of a simple and emotional song just tells me that being able to sing doesn’t mean one has a clue about music. I’m sure she’ll win, but I’m equally sure her career will go nowhere, unless maybe she’s hoping for a nod form Broadway, where she could belt to the balcony to her heart’s content.

Still loving Hannah.

I don’t share your same confidence that Alisan will win, MommaJ-- but she very well could. I think Adam will win and am hoping it will be either Adam or Laith. I would be surprised if Hannah is the winner. Adam and Hannah didn’t have great duet results on iTunes, especially Hannah.

Here are early results of the iTunes downloads, about 5 hours after the downloading began:

  1. Adam Wakefield, Lonesome Broken and Blue (Blake)
  2. Hannah Huston, Every Breath You Take (Pharrell)
  3. Alisan Porter, Somewhere (Xtina)
  4. Alisan Porter, Down That Road ((Xtina)
  5. Laith Al-Saadi, Morning Light (Adam)
  6. Adam Wakefield, When I Call Your Name (Blake)
  7. Hannah Huston, I Call the Shots (Pharrell)
  8. Laith Al-Saadi, White Room (Adam)
  9. Alisan and Xtina, You've Got a Friend
  10. Laith and Adam, Golden Slumbers
  11. Adam and Blake, The Conversation
  12. Hannah and Pharrell, Brand New

I find it interesting that there is no clear cut winner. Personally I just don’t care for Alisan screaming her way through songs. Somewhere was a painful comparison to me to Barbra Streisand. I would put her last.

Hannah has a good voice and I did kind of like that Police song. She’s a bit boring for me and I want to tie her arm down.

Laith is obviously a true musician. I’m just not sure if 70s rock wins competitions.

Adam is also really good but he seems to not have much personality off stage.

I’m not sure who it is who actually votes. It can’t be teen girls right now.

I wouldn’t buy any of their records.
