Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Just watching the second pairing… and not sure I’m liking this portion of the competition. Seems to me like there’s a lot of artificiality in the coaches demeanor while watching and “picking.” Show also seems very drag-gy.

But I’ll keep with the show and see how I like the “live competition”, whatever that’s going to be.

^I liked the batlle rounds much better when the duets seemed to be working TOGETHER and not against one another. I thought the first two pairings, Frenchy v. Taralyn and Patrick v. Tyler were trying to upstage each other. Tim v. Casey and Viccy v. Niki really performed great duets. Casey reminds me a lot of Haley, on American Idol. Lots of raw talent waiting to be discovered. I also liked Viccy, who has a very marketable look to go along with that voice. I feel sorry for most of the losers tonight. All very talented singers. I’m not sure Patrick or Tyler were the strongest singers of the night. I got the impression that Blake didn’t like Tyler’s look (even after selecting him last week) and that’s why he got sent home.

Vicci vs. Niki–Holy Cow! How could you choose between the two? Why would Cee Lo pair those two against each other? It’s like having your No. 1 seed play the No. 2 seed on the first round!

Yeah, I agree that Cee Lo made a big mistake. If the celebrity star makers are competing against each other, it would have made much more sense to keep two of your strongest singers in the fight, so that your stable of talent remains most formidable. I’m sure he’s kicking himself over that decision about now.

I loved the last duet, Vicci and Niki, also. I think Cee-Lo did chose the right one (Niki), and I could hear him telling her to call him as he hugged her good-bye. I also loved it that they both did their best and supported each other right to the good-byes, unlike the first duet w/ Frenchie. Frenchie was also the best voice, so I agreed w/ Christina’s choice. I think Blake was biased when he chose Patrick the country guy over Tyler, as Tyler’s voice was far more talented and wonderful to listen to across his full range, and Tyler’s performance was fun to watch, and he plays up his dorky look just fine. I dread seeing more folks next week having to battle it out … the show is good, but I hate seeing good ones have to go. I hope they follow-up on these folks that get dualed out in these battle rounds … so far a lot of talent. 10 points for NBC.

I guess there will be another 3 weeks of this battle round. Something about it seemed to drag but I wouldn’t cut out any of what I saw, if that makes any sense. I also disagreed with Blake in his choice but I have to think that the coaches have to take into account the off camera experience with the contestant as well. Are they likeable, high maintenance, coachable, etc??? Attitude has to play a part.

D and I were very put-off by Tim’s comment of wanting to make the other judges wish they had chosen him. I can understand his frustration with being so close so many times, and after 14 years of trying.

We will definitely keep watching.

I agree that Cee Lo made a mistake pairing Nicky and Vicky. They were both really good and very similar. I also think Tyler should have won. I also agree with the comment about Christine’s breast’s and the unnecessary display of them. It’s like they’re on a platter. I think I like the pace of this show a bit more then Idol, which really drags. I can’t watch DWTS for the same reason. Well, that and my husband makes annoying comments the whole time.

WHAT?! I thought he chose Vicci! (Oh, you must have meant that he chose Niki to go…)

Yes, my sentence (now that I’ve had coffee) should have said:
I think Cee-Lo did chose the right one (Vicky), and I could hear him telling Niki to call him as he hugged her good-bye.

My DH and DS only watch the show for Xtina’s ample cleavage! I think she could tone it down a bit, especially during mentoring sessions, etc. My heart broke when Patrick was chosen last night, but all other picks were spot on. I understand why the judges are putting the similar “types” against each other, but I hated to see Ceelo choose.

I have to admit that I forwarded through a lot of the mentoring so that I could watch the competition piece before bed. Will need to go back to watch it all when I get home tonight.

The show lost a ton of momentum for me last night, and I disagreed with 3 out of 4 of the choices. But I guess the coaches are picking singers they think will garner the most votes–which is often not the same as the best singer. I was particularly disappointed with the choice of the cute-ish generic country singer with the rapidly retreating hairline over the not-so-good-looking gay hipster with great vocal chops.

I’d like a shrink to poke around inside Christina’s head and find out why a pretty girl with the best voice in her generation, huge success in the business AND a young child wants to flaunt her ridiculous breast implants and dress like a cheap whore.

For me, the battle round duet that I enjoyed the most tonight was definitely Angela and Javier, followed by Nakia and Tye. Javier should go far in this competition. Baldy Beverly’s oversinging rocker act is starting to get on my nerves and I think keeping Justin would have been the wiser choice. The song really favored Beverly.

Last week, I thought two of the duets were tough to choose a winner: Frenchie’s and Vicci’s. This week, not so tough. The harmonies on Baldy Bev’s song were horrible. Do we have to take one of them? Jared Blake was a surprise…did not think that he would feel comfy singing that song. Agree that Javier was smoooooth…I would have taken Tye though over Nakia…

I thought almost everyone (including those cut) last week were better than almost everyone this week. Except for Javier.

Anyone have a theory on why the sound quality on the Voice is so much better than on AI? Even DH who has a substantial hearing loss noticed it right away. The singers on the voice are generally better than those on AI (IMHO) but there is also a remarkable difference in sound quality.

^Great point and I totally agree. Not sure, other than different network, studio, equipment, producers, sound engineers, mixing, etc. etc. I hope it continues as the formats change going into the next phase of the competition. I have no reason to believe that NBC won’t produce a superior sound product than FOX.

I agree with you missypie - I think all of the singers last week were better then this weeks except for Javier.

Not a fan of Baldy Beverly. She’s just to over the top for me. I also liked Tye over Nakia.

I stopped watching AI. It just drags too much.

I actually paid $ to download the Vicci/Nicky duet…

I also liked Tye over Nakia (sp?).

I really liked Javier - he surprised me. I was disappointed in Elinowen. D has played them on her radio show & I like their stuff … but they do their own music, not covers, so they perform songs that they know fit them. That does make a difference.

No longer bothering with AI. I do enjoy The Voice!

No one commenting tonight?

I thought Blake’s two gals were both losers in their own way. Christina’s pair could have gone either way.

What Adam did with his two was amazing. They were amazing. Both of them. It was a shame that one had to go.

I thought CeeLo’s choice was a tough one also. I would have been happy with either.
