Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

I think Adam definitely has the strongest stable of talent. I was pretty underwhelmed by the overall competition tonight, and am hoping for a better show next week.:(

^^^jmmom, The East Coast gang went to bed already…

A couple of random thoughts:

I was surprised that Serabee didn’t heed Blake’s warning about oversinging. She basically did exactly what he asked her NOT to do. Serabee should have been able to beat Dia easily if she had not tried so hard.

I really liked Devon and Rebecca’s duo. They sounded great together.

So far, Javier is my front-runner but watch out for Jared Blake. He’s on a weaker team (Blake’s) which should help him.

Between AI finals and DWTS awarding of the mirror ball trophy tonight, couldn’t fit in The Voice.

I agree … Adam’s were the best, hands down. Not only are they good singers, but it was a great choice on Adam’s part & the singers did a terrific job both together & on solos. I think Blake’s were pretty iffy, and I think he chose Dia because he can mentor her (not so much with the preacher’s daughter!). I was a bit surprised the CeeLo picked the two girls, but I wasn’t all that impressed with the alternative - maybe he thinks he can get more out of the duo, who do sound nice when they harmonize (better than on their solos, I think). I also would have chosen Raquel over Julia, as Christina did … much as I sort of don’t like to admit that, since I am not really a fan of her voice type. She has great stage presence & can sell a song.

I think Scotty’s Idol win bodes ill for Patrick Thomas. They sound a whole lot a like

I thought there were too many bad pairings. I agree that Adam’s pairings were the best and Blake’s team the weakest. SaraBee really shot herself in the foot ignoring Blake’s advice. I liked the “pretty girl” over the duo on CeeLo’s choices, but was not overwhelmed by any of the three. Looking forward to next week. I do like the pacing of this show compared to DWTS or AI. I really couldn’t watch the other two without an alternate station or a good book.

There’s something off-putting about Kelsey (“pretty girl”) for me. I can’t put my finger on it though. I’m looking forward to the Xenia/Sara match up–both young, shy California girls. Also, Jeff Jenkins who sounded so amazing in the blind auditions…

So far, no duet has come close to the Vicci/Nicky one for me!

I keep seeing the promos teasing something unexpected for next Tuesday. Anybody else think there may be a chance for the celebrities to bring someone back on their team, kind of like the judges’ rescue on American Idol?

I keep thinking there will be Bring Backs somewhere along the line. The initial cuts are so precipitous, so pairing-dependent (instead of each against the whole field).

Let’s hope Nicky comes back then!

If each mentor has 4 left after the battle rounds, then we’ve got 16 contestants. Add 4 more if each coach gets to bring back one…20 contestants in all.

That’s not a bad number to go on to the live rounds with…

Lily over Cherie???

I really didn’t think Lily or Cherie were good enough to advance. I missed the beginning tonight, but the singing didn’t impress me.

Lily presents better; doesn’t sing better IMHO

I thought Cherie was better, too. The two young girls were so off pitch even I cringed, and I don’t have that good of an ear. I thought both were awful and not sure how either made it this far, but the one he picked (already forgot her name) did have a better tone, IMO.

My husband and I didn’t think Lily or Cherie were that great. Actually, I didn’t think any of the singers were memorable tonight.

I’m just watching now. I think the first two picks were absolutely correct. Jeff and Senia (sp?) each have unique voices. Their competitors were “just” voices.

Like pretty much everyone else, I didn’t care for Lily or Cherie and didn’t care which one went forward.

I thought Emily was stronger tonight, but kind of like Curtis better personally.

Side comment: did anyone else find it disconcerting to see Emily in basically a demure Jackie Kennedy 1960’s sheath dress with all those tatoos?

I didn’t think either Sara or Xenia, the two young, shy competitors competing against each other, were good enough to advance. On the other hand, I was sorry to see Casey go home. She and Jeff, the first pairing on tonight’s show, had a really nice opening duet. The huge “shocker” (according to the trailer) didn’t seem like that big of a deal to me. Okay, so they kissed (for now?!), at the end of their duet. I thought Blake’s line that it was a du-et and not instructions to “do-IT” was really funny, along with (I believe?) Adam’s line about either Curtis or Emily was going home but probably NOT alone. Emily would be so much prettier without most of those tattoos.

I’m looking forward to the live rounds beginning next week.

Not the best matchups last night. Agreed with all the picks except I picked Cherie over Lily. I thought the song was a bad choice for Xenia and her partner. Hopefully, she’ll get a better song for the live competition. I like her unique voice. That said, I think Adam has the strongest team, then Cee Lo, Blake next and I think Christina has the weakest team.

I was disappointed to see Cherie sent home as I thought she really stepped up in the performance. The teaser about the surprise disappointed as I didn’t think that kiss was such a big deal.

I just saw in my fb feed from Vanderbilt that Patrick Thomas (who sang “Live Like You Were Dying” in the audition round) is a rising junior at Vandy with a double major in music and econ. I guess that will move him to near the top of my short list!

They really left the dregs to the end, didn’t they? Christina’s selection of Alison was beyond bewildering. I didn’t think the girl sang one note in key, and in some spots her caterwauling wasn’t even a recognizable as Since You’ve Been Gone. But I think Christina has the weakest team generally. (Maybe all the blood that should be nourishing her brain gets stuck in her chest?)

I think Xenia has a lovely and unique tone, but is desperately in need of several years of serious vocal training. It’s doing her no favors to push her into the spotlight with no skills to fall back on.

I was glad to see Casey Desmond eliminated–the fire engine red hair, ginormous forehead (D and I yelled “She need bangs!” simultaneously the moment she came out) and the clown makeup all combined for a look so terrifying that I could barely pay attention to her voice.

And that completes today’s snark…see you next week!
