Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

For the record, I was not planning to post a link from Facebook. I SAW the video on FB and did not have time to go look for it on another source. My intent was for those interested to search for it themselves, which you all did. good job.

New twist this season!

“The Comeback Stage”…

Kelsea Ballerini will be the 5th coach. She will select and coach 6 artists who did not get a chair turn in the Blinds. Then, 2 will have a chance to compete for America’s vote and only 1 will go to the Live Shows.

Not sure how I feel about this. It seems like an artist who got a chair turn might have the tougher road to the Lives.

I’m not hating this, like I hate the block.

On the one hand, I like introducing new things to keep things fresh. I’m sure we’ve all watched a contestant that we’ve said, “I can’t believe nobody turned.” But I can’t say I’ve ever said that about 6 contestants in any given season. But on the other hand, we lose so many as it is between the knockouts and the battles, would one of these really be better than one of those eliminated?

Exactly. Last season, had this Comeback Stage been in play, a non-chair turner would have advanced instead of Livia Faith, one of my favorites. Guaranteeing a place in the Live Shows seems overly generous for someone who didn’t get a chair turn. Maybe the producers felt the coach steals make up for those good Battle and Knockout losers. Maybe they also thought too many good artists in the Blinds slipped through the cracks late when coaches only had 1-2 slots left to fill or having just 1 coach with 1 slot remaining.

Don’t forget The Voice starts tomorrow night! I opened the app on my phone tonight and it requires an update this year.

The update didn’t take very long, though. I hope more of you will play along this season!

I hope more people download or update the app and play along also, musicmom!

I am looking forward to seeing who Kennedy Holmes chooses as her coach. Logic says JHud, but you never know. Check out her clip on nbc.com of her singing Turning Tables during her Blind Audition. She had such a full, rich tone for a 13-year-old:

I was very impressed with her diction! I could actually understand the words. She is very “finished” for her age. I would guess she has had good training. Of course, everyone would think she would choose JHud, but maybe she will surprise us. Hard to imagine that Kennedy was not even alive when Kelly and JHud were on American Idol!

My friend’s son is Sam Hastings. I don’t know how he will fare. As usual, I’ll probably be watching it on NBC.com tomorrow.

How is the season 15 premiere so far?

Great! I picked almost all of them for my team so far.

I picked a lot of them, too, but I’m sure I will have to delete somebody to make room for those not yet to audition.
@Consolation, your friend’s son was on tonight. I will not comment further so as not spoil anything for those yet to watch it.

I was intrigued by the young guy from Hawaii. Not the best singer, but there’s just something about him!

Hmmm, thought youtube links have been allowed. Hmmm.
Kennedy Holmes was very good. As was the big guy in the red jacket from Atlanta.

I am in disbelief… Kennedy Holmes is only 13-years-old. How is that even possible? I do not recall ever knowing or watching someone so young with such poise and polish. What an impressive young adult. It is almost as if her incredible vocal gift is not even her biggest asset.

I also liked Tyke (the long haired blonde kid from HI), Patrique (Red plaid jacket), and Country guys Kameron and Mikele.

@jshain, those are the ones I put on my team! I also added Mercedes, at least until someone else comes along.
I really was surprised that the little Filipino-American girl got so much praise for just screaming from the first note.
I saw somewhere on the internet where Kennedy was being compared to Whitney Houston. Not sure there can be another Whitney, but I can’t wait to hear Kennedy sing again.

musicmom, I added everyone who got a chair turn Monday night since you get points for every day you have an artist on your team. So, I also have Mercedes, Radha, Sarah, and Tyshawn at present.

Edit: I have 33,000 points.

I have Sarah, Tyshawn, Mercedes, Kameron and Kennedy. This is my favorite part of the show. I usually lose interest by the top 10.

I agree about the 6 from this part. I think if no one turned the person wasn’t good enough or ready. But many times in the next round they let good ones go. I think I would have grabbed 2 each round not 6 at once.

Sam has a really cool voice, as the judges noted, but he is kind of shy, I think, and obviously lacked showmanship. His mother, who was on with him, is a member of my choir and also does paid gigs from time to time. They talked about overcoming the fear. Clearly he wasn’t able to. :frowning:

I was hoping he would be picked up by the second chance coach, since I think that maybe more confidence and a different song choice would make a difference, but oh well.

I added Kennedy, Mikele, Tyshawn, and Tyke to my team this morning. I, too, did not get the love for the screamer.

I hope Sam returns next season and shows some of the range he is capable of!

I really liked Sam’s voice, but I didn’t think the song choice did much to show it off. I hope he gets his fear under control. He is very talented.

I liked Sam too but kept saying the song was too repetitive. Song choice really is important.
