Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

Different opinion here. I do not think Christina is sacrificing Matt. She has decided to go more commercial and this is to save him. Except for Hallelujah he has not been that great. She is not pushing Jacquie as much as using her only weapon, namely the high note. They are good for their age but not much else. I think the Dstark will be very disappointed within two weeks. I would be surprised to see Jacquie making the final 3 or even 5. Watch what happened to that Kaya girl on Simon’s Horror Show. Screamers only go that far.

Fwiw, the iTunes tally is remarkably close to my own list. I am waiting for Adam’s seasonal implosion. He is about to lose the Reggae Queen.

PS Danielle won because she was the best, and by a mile. ;)

I thought it was a great night overall. I even liked Jacquie, though I still think she needs to learn how to deliver a song with more subtlety, even if just to save her voice from damage. I’m not a fan of Tessane, but thank goodness someone finally put her in casual clothes–it took ten years off her appearance. Unfortunately her hair looked like my grandma’s–tons of curls rigid with hairspray, and her makeup was too Christina. I always have to remind myself that she’s still in her twenties. I think between her clothing, hair, and makeup she comes across as someone’s glamorous, but middleaged, mom, and it’s going to keep her from the top three despite her talent. Loooved Will, but I’ve always thought he was insanely talented, just not the best at performing. As for James–is it awful for me to say that his tiny teeth creep me out? Well, there, I said it.

I think Danielle was the best by a mile.

My wife has a very good ear and she likes Cassadee. Didnt like the song choices but loved the voice.

I am already disappointed. Matt was awful.

I think James is solid.

Jonri, where did you get the itunes info?

I got it here: [iTunes Top 100 Songs](iTunes Top 100 Songs Chart 2023)

I think it’s legit. I tried on itunes itself and it doesn’t seem to update much. This site updates frequently. Will is now up to #6, but cut-off time is 10:55.

OOPS!!! I read the small print, site was last updated at 10:09 am, so this is not final.

s have changed a bit, but order is still the same as of 10:09.

Mommaj, there were several performers this season with weird teeth that showed too much gum that distracted me from their singing: Preston, and that other guy…Nick? Not as much of an issue for James, but I know what you mean. I really hate James’ glasses. Not that he wears glasses, but the specific ones he has. They really are dorkish, and he is a nice-looking guy.

Now, now, we all know that Michelle was in fact best by a mile. BTW, xiggi, I watched the guy on the X-Factor, and he was very good, although not as good as Will, IMHO. Apparently he had had years of singing and performing with a band going in, and was not quite the amiable burrito slinger he presented himself as. I’m surprised that you didn’t object to his signature move of bending over repeatedly…;)

Jonri… That is awesome. Thanks.

How accurate has that list been in predicting who is going to be sent off?

Caroline was in the bottom 3 on the show last week even though she was #4 on itunes downloads–at least according to the York ¶ paper. (I had not yet found an internet source I could check myself.) Austin and Kat who left last time were in the bottom 2 though.

I don’t know how accurate it was in earlier rounds.

Here’s another site that has the itunes list. [iTunes Top 100 Songs (USA)](iTunes Top 100 Songs (USA) - The Chart - DoiPod)

The one I listed earlier now says updated at 12:10, which is more than an hour after the cut off. Matthew has plummeted to 91. Ray is down to 60. They are the bottom 2 by a wide margin.

Remember though that it’s how it stood at 10:55 am that matters. However, the order has remained the same. Caroline is again the third lowest. Tessanne is 1,2 or3 slots above, depending on which list you use.

Anyway, unless this thing is totally rigged, Will, Cole, and James ought to be safe.

itunes download are not the only things that count, of course.

I’m enjoying keeping up this year.

Regarding Danielle last season, I agree that she won because she was completely different than all of the others. If she were in this competition, she’d win again. The “difference” i’m noting is that she was able to sing everything in a way that was utterly under control, and completely effortless. When you watched her over time, you realized that she was somehow born with some type of vocal talent that made this a lot “easier” for her than it was for anyone else there. Its like seeing a quarterback who has a really strong arm, and also the talent to put the ball where he wants it to be, and also the skill to ascertain where that ought to be. Its quite rare–Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods type of separation from others.

This year I don’t think I see anyone so different from the others, although Jacqui seems to be getting better regularly. I like Cole a lot…Rod Stewart raspy, which may be a little bit limiting, but I like it.

Some of these artists might be better off in a group (Crosby Still Nash, etc.) from a commercial standpoint.

Life as a performing artist has to be one of the hardest careers you can choose. Look at how good all these contestants are.

Dadx, I like your post.

Jonri, I cant remember. What is the bump the singers get from itunes?

dstark, I always thought you were a gal… but, come to think of it, many CCers ALSO think I am a gal!:)

I believe one iTunes download equals 5 votes.

Lol…

Finally, someone else likes Cole. I’m sticking with “what worked for the Red Sox will work for Cole” thesis. If Jonri’s list is correct then Ray will be eliminated along with Caroline. Matthew or Tessanne will be at the bottom 3 but they will be saved by dstark and cartera respectively. Jacquie was a good Christina mimic last night.

Ok… Whio has been kicked off? Where are the east coast updates?

Since you asked…

Saves (in order) Will, Cole, Jacquie. That’s all so far.

[Remember that the itune downloads are only part of the story and that we don’t have the list as it existed at 10:55. ]

Do they announce the saves by vote count or is it random?

They’ve never said one way or the other…at least that I’ve heard.

Still, this time, they’ve announced ## 1, 2 and 4 on the itunes list, so it MAY be in order.

Next 2 saved are Tessanne and James.

So Matthew, Caroline, and Ray are three bottom. They were also bottom 3 on itunes list. Only one can be saved. The audience gets 5 minutes to tweet to save.

Adam thinks Matthew will get saved. Time to tweet has ended.

I think the “tweet save” for one of the bottom three is unfair for the West Coast people. How do we know who and when to tweet the save?

Save goes to Matthew!

dstark’s bet is still alive!

So, Caroline and Ray go home.

Overall, I think the results were fair.

I do not think they were fair  I can’t tease DStark for another week. Joke set aside, I really think Matthew should have been sent packing. That tweet save is plain wrong.
