Is "The Voice" Your New Vice?

I like Javier, Dia, Nakia and Frenchie. I think Javier will win. Loved Dia’s version of “Heartless”. How could Adam have not heard Adam Lambert’s song or the song from the Script? C’mon, I don’t buy it. The Script’s popularity has soared this past year. Not a great businessman if he isn’t keeping up with other rising bands. That really made me wonder about him to be honest.

Well, I guess wearing any shoes is an improvement…

Maybe if she becomes famous, she’ll go out on her own like Enya who used to be in Clannad, a family populated band.

I hope President Obama doesn’t go too long tonight (Where are my priorities?!!).

Well, congrats to LMNOP for being the first to call the final 4 correctly.

Interesting that two judges went 50/50 and one 49/51. Only Adam really chose.

I did not watch tonight, but if it’s the four LMNOP listed in post #151, I’m okay with that.

I have to agree with Jonri that the judges voting didn’t seem to make much difference. 3 judges couldn’t make a choice (it’s like asking a parent–“Do you like D1 or D2? You can only pick one.”). Plus, none of the judges’ numbers changed the result from what America voted. So why bother to do it?

Some voting surprises–I thought the voting between Nakia and Vicci would have been closer, but America voted for Vicci at a 75-25 clip–a veritable beat down!

Also the Xenia and Dia vote was closer than I would have guessed.

What is going to happen next week? Will the finalists sing one song? Two songs? It’ll be a two hour show.

I think that it will come down to which contestant has the best arrangement of the song that best showcases their talent and then performs the heck out of that song. Song selection is going to be sooooo crucial.

I’ll bet Dia has one more great arrangement up her sleeve. (Maybe First Cut is the Deepest–I remember the 1977 Rod Stewart version; looked it up and the song was written by Cat Stevens in 1967 and was a hit for two other artists before Rod.) Blake doesn’t seem to give much advice on song selection or performance as a coach–but he is 100% behind his singers; he’s got their backs. Sometimes instilling confidence is the best thing you can do for someone. Then get the heck out of her way.

Vicci definitely chooses her own songs. I’ll bet she’s got one more great song in her bag of tricks. Cee Lo will be great in helping her set the stage, but he doesn’t seem to be much help otherwise. [Watching his headgear in the last couple of performances, I wonder if he is behind Vicci and her Janelle Monae hair do…BTW, I had to look up Janelle Monae. But I actually think that her hair looked more like that character on Hey Arnold cartoon…Gerald, the African American kid with the tall hair.]

Christina definitely helps her girls with song selection and she has great instincts when it comes to performance. Whenever she says, “I think it would sound great if you did something like this right here,” she is right on the money. Of all the coaches, she really does seem to coach. I will be interested to see what Bev comes up with next week…can I hope for a hat?

Javier definitely chooses his own songs–Adam’s job will be to get him to “make the song his own” without doing that over-singing thing. I’m not sure that Javier needs much more help than that.

Finals should be interesting…

I like Joan Jett. Maybe that’s why I like Vicci. I would say that she is Joan Jett without the edge…

^^^Adam Levine: “Who’s Janelle Monae???”

Maybe Vicci should complete the look with a tuxedo and two-tone shoes…

I had a chance to buzz through the results show to pull out America’s votes for each contestant.

American voted:

75 for Vicci; 25 for Nakia

73 for Javier; 27 for Casey

56 for Dia; 44 for Xenia

57 for Bev; 43 for Frenchie

Slam dunks for Vicci and Javier; a little harder for Dia and Bev, but still a solid win.

Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton’s wife, will be singing a duet with Dia this week. Team Blake (which obviously also includes his wife) is going for the win!

I hope Miranda convinces Dia to step up in the shoe department! This will be interesting because Miranda and Dia’s voices are quite different … Miranda also has a nice loud belt note, and I haven’t heard a strong belt type of note out of Dia, even though the quality of her voice within the range she has done is nice.

I’ll be the lone voice of dissent in the shoe department with regards to Dia. I think the point of this show, starting with the judges not seeing the contestants and just listening to their voices, is about how well the contestants can sing, not how they look. I LOVE the idea of a pretty young singer making a shoe statement by not doing the stiletto look that every other female singer feels required to do. I think she does need to show her range in song choice, but I like her shoe choices!

Kathiep, well said. I don’t necessarily want Dia to have stilettos like a diva, but just something that makes her legs look as good as they are, but you’re right, I certainly don’t want to see her morph into a popular culture clone.

jshin, any other hints on what may happen next week?

Sigh … I guess I am one of the few who is actually impressed by a young woman who does not feel the need to skank out in order to sing in front of an audience. I really like so much about Dia. I like that she doesn’t have a huge voice yet manages to sound so wonderful. I like that she dresses nicely but in a way that is obviously comfortable for her (dress length, neckline, and heel height). I like that she puts her own spin on the covers she performs (knowing that she normally performs original music).

Not everyone needs to belt out music. Not everyone needs to look like a tramp as she lip syncs to her auto tuned tracks (like so many pop tarts these days). If they do need to do that to get a record contract, there is something wrong with the picture, IMHO.

I agree with you, kelsmom. I think Dia’s pretty darn perfect, just the way she is.

Hey, I said it too;)

Duly noted kathiep, post # 171. You were first to favor flats on Frampton!!!

Watching, anyone?

I’m watching. Loved the opening number with the coaches!

I thought the opening number was horrible.

Like Javier’s song and the Dia/blake duet. Vicci’s song wasn’t as good, but she did a great job with it.
