Me too. I just really don’t want him to go because he doesn’t get a song that displays his voice. But I’m glad that many of you liked it. He reminds me so much of S2 (minus the tattoos and longer hair), that makes me like him more.

I like the Beach Boys. Sloop John B was my first rock and roll record. God Only Knows is not the best song ever written to me bit I like it. I am not sure about Matt.

You got to admit, however, Matt has a better voice than Brian Wilson…

I feel like these two judges tonight are picking the wrong songs for their singers. I remember Luke being so good before tonight. Let’s Get It On was the wrong song choice for him. It did sound like karaoke. The only one that did well so far tonight is Elyjuh Rene. Ryan wasn’t too bad and he certainly has the cute factor. Jean sang the wrong song too, or at least a bad arrangement of it.

True, @jshain. :)

Just heard Luke Wade. Love him. Have a big weakness for blue-eyed soul/soul/R&B. Not as purely ecstatic as Pentatonix doing the same incredible song, but very, very good.

I don’t think anybody should ever listen to what I say on music, but I listened to the Beach Boys version and Matt’s version and I prefer the Beach Boys. Might be familiarity. (Carl Wilson was the lead I think).

I just don’t know about Matt. Might be his looks. Look forward to the best Taylor in the competition tonight. The guy on Gwen’s team.

Maybe we can refer to Taylor Brashears, aka girl Taylor, as “2-tattoo Taylor”. After Gwen mentioned one of them after her performance last night, she revealed the second one on her other thigh. The fact Gwen had to mention a tattoo in the first place probably suggests a less-than-stellar performance in the first place, as some of you have previously mentioned.

Praise for Sugar from the judges - I didn’t like it at all.

I think Elyjuh did well tonight. I haven’t been impressed by the others tonight.

What a strange season. No frontrunner. Some of the better performers in previous weeks making one wonder how they got here. Tonight? Karaoke night on a cruise ship might sound better. Antoinette, Sugar, and most tonight?

Seriously?

Not too many raves the first two nights this week.

I was really disappointed by nearly every performance tonight. I, too, think Elyjuh did well. I like Ryan. I’m a sucker for the All American Guy look.
I think Luke’s voice is too high for Let’s Get It On. Did not make me want to get it on at all. I have never liked Sugar. DaNica is probably in her 20s but comes across as 40. I thought the same about Tessanne last year, though. Bryanna should be going home. Most all were ok but forgettable.

Really bad song choices for many. I don’t know why they aren’t choosing current songs. So many ones that younger people haven’t heard. I don’t think Danica had the best choice of songs, something she’d never heard before, that might appeal to some of us but not many others.

I don’t start watching this show until it gets toward the end. Tonight was the first time I watched. I didn’t like most of what I heard. The All About That Bass singer was cringe-worthy. The last guy … uh, no.

I expected the “last Taylor” to hit it out of the park. He was the best one before the live competition started. Again, I was disappointed. I think it was the song choice and it didn’t help his cause when Blake remembered the song in an underwear commercial! DaNica was also disappointing. You’re right it, it is hard to tell if she’s 20 or 40. She definitely has an image problem. I actually liked Sugar Joans tonight. The song was sung well, but maybe she over sang it a bit. Elyjuh, Ryan, and Sugar were my picks for tonight. It’ll be interesting to see who goes through tomorrow night.

I have no idea how accurate this is going to be…

What did you all think of Pharrell’s opening number? Personally, I was thinking Esther Williams might be coming out of retirement at any moment.

I wonder if Taylor Swift should have put in some overtime this week, working her usual magic, and especially having final say on the song choices? The show’s title last night and (especially) tonight should have been “Look What Happens To A Top Rated Show When Taylor Swift Takes The Week Off!”

Agree, Elyjuh Rene probably sung himself into the final 12. He’s a vocal gymnast and he toned down the theatrics. (Too bad Jean Kelley did NOT. She’s probably out.)

I hope Bryana makes the cut. I like having the “kids” in the competition (her and Reagan).

Just when I thought song choices couldn’t get any worse, DaNica sings Joni Mitchell. What will Pharrell have her sing next week (if she’s still around), “Both Sides Now”?

I wish more of the singers did their own instrument accompaniment.

For me Elyjuh, Luke, and Taylor John top 3 of the night-- but that’s not saying much.

Coaches’ song choices have always been an issue on this show and continue to be.

I was amazed by how good Elyjuh was, since I did not like his prior performances. I’m afraid that All About the Bass was a BIG mistake. DaNica does indeed appear much older than she probably is. Help Me is a tough song to put across. It is not the most obviously appealing of Joni’s songs, probably too sophisticated for the purposes of this competition, although DaNica sang it well, technically, I didn’t think she sang it convincingly, if you know what I mean. She approached it like an artifact. I think A Case of You would have been a better choice.

Having checked out the itunes list as of 12:38–close to the noon cut-off The Voice uses–I am confident that “All About the Bass” was not a “BIG mistake.” At # 58, it was the highest ranked of the songs sung last night. Taylor John’s “Stuck…” was 67, Luke was 70, and Sugar was 99. Songs from the previous night did better–Matt’s song was higher than any of them at 42, Damien was 59, Reagan 79, Jessie 81, and Craig 93.

It’s always interesting to me to see how far off my own predictions are. I do wonder if the “Tessanne” success has mobilized Jamaica to try again. (Yeah, I know, you aren’t supposed to be able to vote outside the US, but, based on news accounts in the Tessanne days, it’s rather easy to get around that.)

Personally, I thought Ryan and Luke were the weakest last night and DaNica was hurt by the song choice but I didn’t vote and know very little about music.

I do agree with the comment in the article linked describing “praise more unwarranted than a first-grade art fair.” While I think Jean overdid the drama, I didn’t think she was so much worse than anyone else that the trashing she got was warranted.

I couldn’t believe that Blake Shelton had never heard that Joni Mitchell song! Great song, but, I agree, not right for this competition. I hope that it doesn’t hurt DaNica.

Pharrell’s opening number was really strange, but he’s a great artist so maybe I’m missing something!

Looking forward to tonight’s show!
