Is the Wait List bad?

Hey guys! I’m a transfer applicant to the Montclair State University MT program. I just received news today that I’ve made the Wait List for the program. How does the wait list work? Am I a certain rank on the Wait List? How many other people are on it? Is it different for me because I’m a transfer applicant? Does it mean I still have a good chance of getting in?

Wait lists are never a bad thing! But there’s no way to really say whether you will or will not get in off the wait list. It’s my understanding that most schools keep waiting lists by type, so if someone of your “type” chooses not to accept an offer and you are next in line, you will get in. If everyone of your “type” chooses to accept, you will not.

The only way to find out (and you may not even then) where on the list you stand would be to call and ask. Some schools will be very upfront with you about it (Baldwin-Wallace, for one) and others will not.

Think of it this way. You have not been rejected. You’re still waiting, just like you were yesterday! But now you know they actually liked you, which you did NOT know yesterday. It’s a good thing.

Question: How did you find out that you are wait listed?

Got an email from Undergrad Admissions, and then checked my online status, where it said “WL MUTR”

Some wait list notifications ask you to reply and let them know if you wish to remain on the list. Even if they don’t ask you to reply, it’s a good idea to do so. Express your enthusiasm for the program and mention anything new that’s happened since your application went in.

When did you audition?

I auditioned January 21st.

Does anyone know how the waitlist at montlcair works ? Rank, type, random number … ???
