Is theatre a good EC for Harvard?

I have been a lead role in 4 plays and participated in 7 plays so far just completing my sophomore year in high school. I am in one of the top 80 schools in Texas and am 16/416 in my class. Top 3.8%. I have a 4.0 GPA and am taking the toughest courses the school can offer. I am also vp of my theatre club going into junior year and plan on volunteering at a theatre camp for kids our school is hosting to accompany the other 100+ services hours I already have. I also am studying really hard for my SAT in October. My question is, is theatre a good EC for Harvard or colleges like Harvard?

Harvard has a vibrant theater community, which produces over 20 student run/student directed productions a year, so yes: http://hrdctheater.com

@gibby I think OP is talking from an admissions standpoint. There is no EC that is “good” for Harvard. Do they admit theatre students? Yes.

You’re correct. There isn’t one ‘good’ EC - they are all good, as Harvard is interested in everything you do.

I suspect OP is really asking if theater is worth continuing as an EC, and the answer is yes.

It’s good in the sense that you show passion and commitment to it, which is what Ivies look for in ECs.

I am in agreement with the replays that have been made. Something that we have been incredibly impressed with is how talented outside of academics so many of Harvards accepted students are.

Thank you for all the responses!

Here’s a question: What’s with the (consistent) use of “theatre”? I noticed it over the weekend, too, at a youth program in Vermont that insisted, repeatedly, that it was a “theatre” company. But that was Vermont. I expect hardier support for native word forms and less mewling Anglophilia from one of the top 16 students at one of the top 80 schools in Texas!

You say tomato…

As OPs mentioned, there really is no perfect EC for Harvard. If your passion is evident (and it is for a sophomore, you’re doing a great job btw!!), then of course it’s great for Harvard! You have done so much for your school’s drama/theatre department already. So I would just stick with this since you seem to love the theatre. I would just also continue to secure more roles and leadership positions.
