Is there a cheaper Wake Forest

My kid is at Miss State, which was a school I would not have looked into initially. Child is non binary and from NJ. However, kid has thrived both academically and socially.

Each child had about 200k in college funds. Child 1 went to UMD and graduated with enough to buy car and set up :up_button: n her own. Child 2 went to Cuse- wanted sports journalism. Got into Sophie Douglas, transferred to Whitman for Financial. Graduates with no leftover and felt the pain even with a good job. Child 3 - could care less about what to study, is a biochemistry major, on a research team, and we pay less than 15k plus apt. Going at least to get masters and possibly Med School.and enough leftover to pay for masters at least.

Price matters, especially if you’re thinking grad school. Prestige of University not so much because it’s all going to be based on your GPA, MCATs and what you did in undergraduate, especially if you can get quality research. Kid did Rural Medical internship in Cambodia, so they don’t miss out on anything by going to a less expensive, less prestigious school

Didn’t see this mentioned, but I wonder if a school like Marquette might be interesting. Lots of school pride, especially during basketball season, engineering school as an option, and will have merit aid. Jesuit culture, so that would be different, but I understand the academics are pretty strong. Bigger city than Winston-Salem, but Milwaukee is nice. Definitely nothing similar about the weather.

I recommend visiting the University of Delaware, if possible.

Does she want to be in a sorority? Greek life is a large part of WFU.

Auburn is not much of a party school and engineering students don’t have time to party - really, maybe marching band and limited fraternity/sorority functions is about it.

I did not write that about SEC schools being party schools. I was quoting post #44, which is why it’s bold. (The quote function was not working at the time.)

My son is a rising senior at Wake. Every application season is different but he got a fair amount of merit aid at SMU, and a lot at Miami of Ohio - both of which felt like Wake to him for varying reasons. He also was accepted to Villanova, Lehigh and Richmond - all with no money. I really felt like Elon was a really good option to wake but he did not like it …….The kids all consider BC to be the closest to Wake but BC is as bad a Wake with aid I believe.
