Is there a difference between a B and a B+?

I’m just wondering. Is there a significant difference between a B and a B+?

I’m not sure what you’re asking? I have read for some colleges, no, there isn’t, because they don’t count + or -, only the letter grade. Not sure how many do that.

Well…the difference between a B and a B+ is whatever difference in percentages a given school uses to quantify the two grades. In college admissions, many schools don’t factor in +/- grades. A B+ is simply calculated as a B, an A- is calculated as an A, etc.

Is there a difference? In any practical sense, no. If you don’t get into a given school, it isn’t likely due to the difference between a B and a B+.

At my D’s high school (+) and (-) are considered the same for the purpose of GPA. So B+/89 is a 3, just as B-/80 is a 3. I am sure there are a variety of different ways high schools assign value to +/- which is why it can be so confusing (and why GPAs are hard to compare across the board).

In my HS it does matter for GPA, which in turn will also affect class rank. It’s a small difference but it can add up.
