<p>I am curious to know if there is such a doctoral program that allows for a broad, inclusive approach to performance culture and history? Not in such that the student is a performer but rather the student is learning this in order to be an educator/resercher. I’m just curious because I am only familiar with programs that offer only one focus. I am not even sure what such a broad field of study would be called…performance studies? Cultural studies? I’m just curious, so if there is such a program and you are familiar with it, I’d be interested to know what it is. Thanks!</p>
<p>Um, why would there be a Doctor of Philosophy in dance? They’re called professionals.</p>
<p>Ticklemepink, the doctorate would be in the study of dance, not in performance.</p>
<p>And ArtsyGirl, I know that there are PhDs in drama, so I don’t know why there wouldn’t be one in performance arts. Your dissertation can bring in other disciplines to inform your research topic, so whichever field you choose as your home program will not limit the scope of your research. You’ll have to do some digging, however. You might want to start at University of Wisconsin, University of Iowa, and NYU.</p>
