Is there a fall break???!!!

I looked at the SC academic calendar on the school site and I saw that there is no break between the day classes start in August and Thanksgiving. Is this possible? Is another calendar other than the academic calendar?

Only Labor Day September 6th

Am I the only one who finds that surprising?

Nope. And for thanksgiving we only get thursday and friday off.

I wasn't even aware that fall breaks existed until my friends on the east coast started having them. It seems to be more of an east coast thing if anything.

You're probably right - its a cold weather thing

I've never heard of a fall break. I always assumed a 'fall break' was the couple days we get off for Thanksgiving

I'm from the East Coast and I've never had a fall break—went to public school my whole life. We always had the Wednesday before Thanksgiving off as well though, but that was just because so many people took their kids out of school early to travel anyway.

most east coast colleges have a fall break

Actually, I'm fairly certain that fall break is for pure liberal arts colleges (LAC).

I have a few friends who get a week long fall break who attend LAC and friends who attend public/private university who don't have fall break. I don't really know why they have a fall break, though =/ But I just looked at some LAC from the West coast, and they have fall break as well. I think it's more prominent in the East coast because there are more LAC in the East than the West.

I assume that timish412 went to a public university, not a LAC. Therefore, no LAC. That's my guess.

But anyway, no, it's not surprising that USC doesn't have a fall break.

^haha actually no, I thought they were asking why primary/secondary schools on the East Coast have fall breaks; I didn't even realize that the OP was asking about East Coast universities. Oops! Glad I'm not a Communications major haha.

But I hadn't heard of the college thing either (my twin brother is going to an East Coast public uni and doesn't have a "fall break"), so the LAC principle could explain why...

With all that you're paying to go to USC, you'd better hope they don't skimp out on instructional days!

USC is pretty ruthless when it comes to days off actually. It's the fewest days off I've heard of at any school.
