I was looking at pics on the dartmouth website and i saw students jumping in a pond/lake in the winter. is that on campus? can you swim in it in the summer?

Jumping into a lake in New Hampshire in the winter?

I think that might be more suicidal than anything else…

lol nah they do it here(maine) too…the lobster dip or whatever

occum pond- scenic place; ices over for skating in the Winter. Walking distance from dorms and close to the golf course, for you golfers. What a life Dartmouth students live!

can you swim in it in the summer or is it gross?

occum is pretty gross, but there is a another local pond/swimming pool that’s a short bike ride.

We have a pond and a river, but no lake (on the main campus).

The pond is quite large though…

The event you are referring to is the Polar Bear Swim which is done during Winter Carnival.

Occum Pond- AWESOME for ice skating in the winter and the polar bear swim during winter carnival - not so great for summer swimming. On campus.

Connecticut River- Quite possibly the nicest River I’ve ever seen, right on campus. Plenty of swimming during the warm months, some (lol) have been known to take a quick dip at first snow. Right on campus

Norwich Pond- Great swimming pond about a mile away.

It was awesome having water near Dartmouth. During my sophomore summer I practically swam in the connecticut (starting from Ledyard to jumping off of the 40 foot river ranch roof!) almost daily!

40 foot jump??? Awesome! I’m pumped for dartmouth!
