Perhaps the most evocative song I have ever heard is Imogen Heap’s “Blanket” in collaboration with Jeff Beck.

I love K.D. Lang’s version of the Leonard Cohen Hallelujah, but I love Joseph Arthur’s version even more! It was featured during the film “Deliver us from Evil”. All the voices are his, dubbed over eachother, it’s quite lovely.

Now that I’m looking around, I can’t find it anywhere! My H found it “somewhere on the internet”, but neither itunes, nor amazon, nor wikipedia lists Joseph Arthur with that song, or the album it’s on (b-sides and rarities). If you see the film though, it plays during the closing credits and you will be crying and crying…

Ooooh yes, Angel from Montgomery! Also from Bonnie Raitt, Too Long at the Fair and Nobody’s Girl.

Speaking of fairs: She Moved Through the Fair. My personal favorite is Anne Buckley’s rendition [Lord of the Dance - She Moved Through The Fair (with Anne Buckley) - YouTube](<a href=“Lord of the Dance - She Moved Through The Fair (with Anne Buckley) - YouTube”>Lord of the Dance - She Moved Through The Fair (with Anne Buckley) - YouTube).

I am SO doing a playlist of what I can for a VERY long flight this weekend. But I am going through a total Stevie Wonder meltdown. I don’t even know where to begin. Can I just say the Innervisions and Songs In The Key of Life albums?

I love anything by Eva Cassidy.

John Denver was wonderful in later years:

Mary Travers’ voice was hauntingly beautiful in the early days:

Shrinkwrap you’ve reminded me of Stevie Wonder’s “I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)” from Talking Book. Stunningly beautiful.

I spent hours in front of the mirror singing these songs into my hairbrush.

One of my favorites

bringing us back again to Jeff Beck and this song which I didn’t know (but do now) was written by Stevie Wonder. [Jeff Beck - Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers - YouTube](<a href=“Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended as Lovers - YouTube”>Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended as Lovers - YouTube)

An oldie:

And a couple of newer ones:

This song, recorded in the l960’s, is for anyone who misses their home country.

Ian and Sylvia’s “Un Canadien Errant” harmonize with disciplined, haunting parallel fifths. A man, banished from his country, tries to send word back home to his friends that he remembers them. Parallel fifths refers to their harmonies, 5 notes apart – not their liquid nourishment.
John Denver singing “Perhaps Love” is beautiful.

Well, I have to say, after clicking through and listening to everyone’s “nominations”, it really comes down to personal taste!

To me, the prettiest-saddest is this: [Sad Violin - YouTube](<a href=“Sad Violin - YouTube”>Sad Violin - YouTube)

LasMa - I agree that 100 Years to Live (Five for Fighting) is beautiful, but i can’t listen to it. It brings me to tears every time I do.

Ok, for the classical category, Erik Satie Gnossienne 3

Greenwitch- I had never heard of Joseph Arthur until PJ added them to their weekend festival.
I did find the song though.

I love Hallelujah - no matter who sings it.

Two songs that always make me cry are: Somewhere over the Rainbow and When You Wish Upon a Star.

I sang You are my Sunshine, over and over to my oldest as a mantra when she was in the NICU when she was an infant & that is guaranteed to make me tear up.

I like both of those too, fall girl.
My mom used to sing them to me when I was little- along with Down in the Valley.

Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog. Also like the way Willie Nelson does it.

emeraldkity, I sang “You are my Sunshine” and “Mockingbird” over and over again to my D too - as I rocked her. I’m convinced my off key singing motivated her to be a wonderful singer.

I love this thread! Thanks for some great suggestions. I can’t believe I have never heard of Eva Cassidy before; I couldn’t stop listening to her on youtube tonight. Maybe you will enjoy some of these. I tried to stick to pretty songs, or I would have had a huge list!
