Is there a typical universal notification date?

Several of the schools I applied to do not list notification dates…or a latest possible notification date, in order to allow students to make a decision? I have heard April 1st tossed around in several places, but I have not been able to confirm and I am worried that I will come off impatient if I email the school about it. (It’s true, but I don’t want to come off that way if I can prevent it.)

Thanks!!!

April 15 is the usual date for student decisions, so most programs try to notify at least a week before then.

However, some students will not get notified before the 15th, because some admitted students will turn down offers, and then other students will be contacted with offers. Sometimes this takes a while, since sometimes some accepted students drag their feet about accepting.

Most of the schools I’ve applied to will be posting/e-mailing admissions decisions by March 15, although a couple are April 1 and one is “between March 23 and April 1,” so there’s a pretty big variation.

I knew March 15th was in my head for a reason!!! I hope to hear by then… I’m getting super impatient!!!

In my field (psych), the universal date is 4/1 (4/15 for student responses), but it may differ by field.
