I noticed that there isn’t a nutritional science major at ucsd. Can you still become a dietitian or nutritionist as some sort of bio major? If so, What steps would you have to take after undergrad ?

what about as a chem major?

i don’t think a chem major would be the most practical.

as for the other question, google has lots of hits. this is one: [Dietitian | Find Nutritionist Career Info and Dietitian Education Resources](How to Become a Dietitian | All Allied Health Schools)

Majoring in Psychology might actually work. Or Child Development. Then get a masters or some kind of Dietician training after BA.

Look at the SDCCD- San Diego City College District. I’ve taken supplemental classes there just out of my own interests seeing looking at possible careers.

I think they have a Nutritionist/Dietician certificate program—

Hey, I’m also at UCSD but I want to be a dietitian also. Right now, I am just taking preReqs for nutrition at other schools (chemistry, biology, econ, stats) and I sent my transfer apps to Davis and Berkeley. You can see a list of accredited schools at the American Dietetic Association website, EatRight.Org

You could major in Human Bio at UCSD and then take community college classes to fill the other prereqs and then do a masters program to become a Registered Dietitian but if you are serious about the career, like I am, your best option is to transfer to a school that has an accredited program.

Hope this helps!

I want to become a dietitian too! maybe at UCSD or UCLA?

One of my acquaintances is a nutritionist now; after graduating with a BS in AP&N from UCSD, she did a nutritional science / coordinated dietetic program at CSULA.
