Is there an advantage to applying ED?

Just looking at their common data set, their RD and ED acceptance rates are about the same (27%ish). Is there an advantage to applying ED? The whole time I was thinking Emory had an ED acceptance rate of 38-40%ish. Blah.

If you are sky-high, then ED would help you because the applicant pool for ED is slightly weaker than the RD. If not, then you’re just like the rest.

IMO, the ED advantage at Emory involves demographics rather than easier acceptance…If you are from an over-represented area, gender, etc, it would be easier to be accepted ED before the quota for that particular group is filled…

For example, a white female from NY/NJ etc would probably have a better chance ED than RD especially if full pay up until the point at which Emory says, “we have enough white females from NY/NJ…”

Well, one of the admissions counselors said the ED rate was slightly higher, around 33-35 percent.
I agree with the posts above.
There’s a smaller, maybe weaker, applicant pool, and the chance to grab the first positions.
Also, it’s simply convenient to have a decision early in the year; takes the college anxiety away earlier :)
