Is there any advantage to being ambidexterous?

Is there any advantage to being ambidexterous or knowing several languages? Do colleges see lots of applicants with these traits?

Why don’t you try to tell us how being ambidextrous would be of value to an institution of higher learning?

They aren’t auditioning for circus acts.

"Do colleges see lots of applicants with these traits? " No. Because they aren’t interested in it.

Straw grasping in extremis I would think.

Sure there’s an advantage. You can write notes even with a broken hand, and you can understand more people. Oh, you mean for college admissions… ;)

As you may already have surmised from the snarky answers to your first question, colleges and universities probably have no idea how many applications the receive from ambidextrous applicants, because they absolutely do not care. Unless you’re a basketball player or a switch-hitter, there isn’t any value to them in your handedness. (But if you decide you’re going to mention being ambidextrous, be sure you spell it correctly.)

As for knowing several languages, that’s great! But when my daughter was applying to colleges, we learned that it also wasn’t as rare as we had supposed.

I’m not as negative about being ambidextrous as some of the others here: It’s a quirky trait and if you can use it as a jumping off point for an essay about how it’s impacted you (assuming it has), then it has some value. Same thing re languages depending on what they are and how you acquired them. Both could fall under the category of ‘potentially interesting life experiences that result in unique perspectives’ that schools do look for.

You could get a scholarship at Juniata (here in PA) for being left-handed. They might let ambidextrous people apply for it as well…

Being ambidextrous could be an interesting essay topic, but nothing more. However you might get some scholarships for it if you look around enough.

Foreign Languages are more like an EC if you know several, they’re not a hook or anything, but it’s a great extra EC to have.

Is there any advantage to being ambidextrous?

No.

or knowing several languages?

Yes

Do colleges see lots of applicants with these traits?

Yes.

Have a good day.
