Is there any chances to get in HYPS if you were deferred by Columbia's ED?

Or: Columbia’s ED is easier than HYPS’s RD, so you won’t have any chances to get in HYPS if you were deferred by Columbia’s ED? Thanks for your input!

Yes, there is a chance.

There is a chance. College admissions aren’t nearly as clearly hierarchical as you might imagine. We all know people rejected from Columbia, Penn, Brown, etc. and accepted to Harvard.

If you’re on the playing field (1500+ SAT, top 10%, leadership, etc.), you have a chance anywhere. No guarantees, of course, but a chance.

^darn…does it have to be a 1500?

jk of course

Of course. As long as your stats and ECs fit into HYP’s category, then you have a fair chance of getting in. Even though I would like to believe that the college admission process is exactly fair, it is not - good applicants may get rejected, while the not-so-good might be accepted. This happens at Brown, cornell and Columbia - and it happens at HYPS, too.

It all depends on what they’re looking for in an applicant. You might be what HYPS is looking for, but not what Columbia’s looking for.
