I just graduated High School with a 3.68 GPA, was involved in countless after school and out of school activities and was only admitted into MSU for the Spring 2012 semester. I took the ACT three times and recieved a 20 all three times, I worked really hard in high school and took challenging classes, I understand my ACT score is low but I thought I would still get in for fall 2011 considering other students from my HS got in with similar grades and scores as me. Last summer, pretty much everyone who was admitted for the spring semester found out in the middle of July that they would be able to go for the fall. I keep calling and asking and everyone keeps telling me they’re overbooked and there is no way I will be admitted for fall 2011. Do you think the admissions counselors are just saying that? Could there still be hope? MSU is the only college for me, is there anything I can do? Can’t they just let me in, I’m only one person!

Unfortunately, it is true that MSU is overbooked for fall- in fact, it is one of the largest freshmen classes ever at MSU. They really can only take a certain amount of people because of things like housing. I hate to say it, but I doubt they will be admitting any more people for fall 2011- every year is different, so that is why people last year were still being called in July, while this year it’s already full.

When did you apply?
If you’re not in by now, you’re not going to get in. Unfortunately, that ACT is just pretty low for MSU. Just go to a CC for a semester, save some money, and start in the spring.

I applied the first week in September, I agree that my ACT score is LOW!! but I know of people who were admitted with a 3.3 and a 21…this does not make any sense to me!!

And I know people 2 years ago who were denied with a 3.2 and a 32 ACT. Admissions are not entirely cut and dry.

I can definitely second (or third) the people who stated that MSU is overbooked for fall because a lot more freshmen accepted their MSU invitation to enroll than expected (compared to years prior, where the dorms had tons of spots). Sorry, I think you might be out of luck this time. Spring 2011 acceptance is not bad at all, just go to CC, hang out at MSU whenever you can and make the best of it.

Count your blessings you got in with a 20 ACT

well it’s not like I slacked off in high school…I was Vice President of my class, I was admitted into Student Leadership all four years, I took challenging classes, I was a student mentor, a freshmen mentor, I was captain of my Tennis team two yeas, captain of my powerderpuff team, I was chair of the Homecoming pep assembly and I maintained two jobs all at the same time. I worked harder than probably half the students that were admitted.

Sometimes the call comes in mid to late August. Keep your plans flexible. Keep your hopes up but try not to be disappointed if the call never comes. January will come before you know it.

Have you heard of students that were admitted that late in the past?

Yes, but not when msu already has by far its largest freshmen class ever.
