Is there any one thing in particular that attracts student s to Brown

over the other Ivys? Thanks much

The open curriculum is a big pull for many if not all of the students who apply to Brown!

lexieam is right. Brown attracts a different type of student, one who says “I want to construct my own education” and this is made possible through the open curriculum. There is no core, no distribution requirement to push you to study a language, to force you to take that adv. math course, or to force you to take the religious studies class. Brown allows its students to take charge of their education , organizing it and constructing it in a way that benefits them.

I am planning to take courses that will allow me to understand public and social lives better, (if accepted that is, coz Brown is awfully competitive to get in, in the first place).

In that regard, I will take political science, international studies, religion, foreign language, creative writing, Urban and Global studies, Education etc. Where else would I get the opportunity to do all this my way? BROWN and only BROWN…

I just love Brown (and for that matter, its essay prompts on the Brown supplement to the common application).

Emma Watson went there. I know it’s not a thing but D2 was seriously thinking of Brown for that very reason. :D

^^this explains a bit

Open curriculum AND a totally different type of Ivy feel. Outrageous.

Brown atmosphere/students is relaxed, open minded, non-stiff, inclusive, racially, religiously and culturally diverse, informal, unconventional, radical, humanitarian, east-coast-pro-peace-hippie-Berkeley.

(D in 3rd year there)
