Is there any professor here that graduated from Stanford?

What subject does he/she teaches?
Is there any anthropology professor that came from Stanford, University of Chicago or University of Pennsylvania? Or any of the Ivy leagues…

[Anthropology Faculty](<a href=“Department of Anthropology | School of Social Sciences | Rice University”>Department of Anthropology | School of Social Sciences | Rice University)

CV’s for many of Rice’s Anthropolgy Dept Faculty. I see UC Berkely, Columbia, Harvard, etc.
Don’t worry about it, Rice is a good school. You can probably find each professor’s alma mater if you wanted to. Just click on faculty…

Why would it matter to you if a professor graduated from Stanford or not? Some of the best professors come from lesser known colleges.

Please don’t judge a professor by the names on the diploma. Each professor teaches differently and has his or her own strengths and weaknesses. Just because a professor graduates from Stanford or Harvard, etc. doesn’t automatically make him a much better professor than someone who graduates from a state school.

You should first sit in a class or two to get a feel for the professor and whether you like him or her or not before simply judging that, “Oh, Dr. John Doe didn’t graduate from Harvard, therefore I’m wasting my time and money being here.” Give professors a chance and don’t write them off because of their school name.

I’m sure that in a job interview you’d like your potential boss to give you as equal of a chance if you were in a hypothetical situation of having gone to a lesser known school than your fellow applicant who’s also vying for the same job. That’s not to say that degrees do not count, but they are not everything. I’m sure you’d be frustrated if people automatically write you off if you did not graduate from a top school and didn’t even give you a chance to prove yourself.

And I’m sure you can relate when I say that even in high school, you may like one teacher better than another because of the teacher’s teaching style and disposition, but your friend or others may think otherwise. It’s all relative opinion… and it’s all what you make of it. Don’t think that just because your professor is an Ivy grad that all your work is done for you and that you will automatically get the best education possible - the world doesn’t work like that.

Rice as one of the nation’s premier institutions offers you incredible opportunities, from access to great faculty to research opportunities, but it’s up to you to take advantage of them.

Look at it like admissions. Getting into a top school as a student is one thing, being hired as a professor at a top school is much, much harder. So yes at virtually any top school there will be many professors from the very best graduate schools.
