Is there any way to make it stop? I want my newsfeed back!

So my facebook newsfeed has morphed recently. Awhile back it shifted to a large percentage of suggested material based on other things that I’d liked. I was kind of OK with that since I discovered some cool things that way. Now it seems to have morphed into personal posts from friends of friends who I don’t know and have no reason to care about. Suddenly my newsfeed is full of personal pictures from people who are total strangers to me. How do I make it stop short of un-following my friends?

Go to notification settings and turn things on and off.

Sometimes you see stranger’s pictures because one of your friends commented on it. When you see a post you aren’t interested in you can click on the little arrow in the upper right side of the post and it will give you options to unfollow the person or a few other choices as well. Also, in settings you can sort friends into categories and get posts from them more or less depending on how you have them marked.

I’ll try that - I don’t want to unfollow my friends, just their friends!

You can also sort your news feed by ‘most popular’ or ‘most recent’. I have mine set to most recent, but Facebook keeps changing it back to most popular. Whenever this happens, I see a lot of posts of friends of friends, so I know it’s time to change it back to most recent.

^yes! FB seems to prefer it to be “top stories” and I always change it back, so I have less chance of missing things.

I do agree that it’s annoying to get “Friend X commented on person-i-don’t-know’s picture”.

I just changed that setting - we’ll see if it helps thanks!

I also fight with it to keep it on most recent. It helps. I also use the arrow in the upper right corner to hide posts by the “friend of the friend.” I don’t care if I never see another of their posts. It does seem to cut them down for a while.
