Is there anything wrong with waiting to start the pre-med journey?

I’m <30 years old and potentially interested becoming a doctor.

However, I’m not entirely sure if I want to make the switch and I believe I need to work on becoming more of a “people person” and gain tougher skin before making the switch, as well as bolstering my study skills.

Given that the journey to become a doctor is so long, is it bad to wait?

It depends how much under 30 you are, and if you have the premed requirements (or will you have to go back to school?) . Taking the classes and then the MCAt and also getting experience in medical fields to see if you really want this could take 3-4 years before you are ready to apply. Then 4 years of med school THEN the most grueling part starts: 3-6 years residency depending on the field. The internship/residency years are absolutely exhausting years: 30 hour shifts combined into 80-hour work weeks, when that work is dealing with sick and dying people and their loved ones. It is not easy. The physical exhaustion in one’s later thirties will likely be much harder than in the late 20s. That being said, one of my med school classmates from the early 2000s was 40 when he started med school. So. It can be done.

I’m closer to 20 than 30 and I will need to go back to school for the premed classes.

It sounds like you’re a doctor - would you even recommend the medical field nowadays haha?
