Is there anyway I can report people who smoke on campus?

I get really annoyed when I'm running or walking to class and have to inhale cigarette smoke from these people. I've seen people smoke so many times, but this time it was at Reitz Union lawn. Really? That's like in the middle of the campus! I'm pretty sure UF is a smoke-free campus, so is there anyway I can go about reporting these people?

Don’t be that guy.

As far as I know, the rule is not usually enforced. But really, why is it a problem? They are outside when they do it and the smoke quickly disperses. You’re not the one destroying your body and wasting your money. Why should you care if others choose to? That is their choice.

not worth your effort to report. smokers outside club west bother me sometimes, but its not like they’re going to race over if you dial 911 for on campus smoking.

you had better be glad you werent there in the late 70s. You would have choked on pot smoke.

dont say anything to anyone.

zackspacey, you don’t be that guy.
SableWarrior, second hand smoke is kind of a problem to me.

And I kinda expected that I can’t do anything about it. Sometimes I forget I go to UF. Haha

wouldn’t be able to do that at any school really. not enough cops.

I can’t stand second hand smoke either. Can’t really do anything, but I hope its still enforced strictly.

aforautumn, thank you for your advise, and I know I wouldn’t be able to do anything even if I go to other schools, but I was talking about the attitude of some people here.

To paraphrase Seinfeld, don’t be an anti-smoking Nazi.

I am not a smoker, and hate smoking, but it always amazes me that people worry about one cigarette, while they are breathing in air that contains bus and auto exhaust, dog poop fumes, etc. etc. etc. Further, if a restaurant wants to have a smoking policy, why shouldn’t they be allowed to have smoking at their establishment?. No one is forcing you to go there. What next, the government banning ice cream and pizza for being unhealthy???

^ this is what i was talking about. And it is not just one cigarette. I’ve been here for over a year, and it seems like once every other day that I breathe in smoke for cigarettes. I know that no one forced me to choose to come to UF, but I chose to come to UF knowing that it is (supposedly) a smoke-free campus. Oh and by the way, when you eat ice-cream or pizza, you’re not killing someone else so it’s not very smart to ban them, and I know that.

Gengster you have got to be kidding me -.-

Wow. I agree, don’t be that guy.

With all due respect, don’t be an extremist or an alarmist.

Second hand smoke has a tiny impact, especially if people are smoking outside. It is not “killing you”, as you assert.

Again, I hate cigarettes, but I am always amused about people who declare a natiional emergency if they see a cigarette, but who live in unhealthy environments like big cities, or twenty miles from a oil refinery, or ten miles from a well fertilized farm, or a mile away from a major highway.

The war on cigarettes, to me, is simply more political correctness.

I too, don’t like it if I go out for a walk, and have to smell the cigarette smoke of some idiot who smokes, but I am not going to call the police on him. I am simply going to walk another 100 feet down the road.
