Is there hope for my 25 act score?

I am an exceptional student with a 4.2 gpa, top of class, and excessive extracurriculars (class president, student council vp, many many more). My act scores, however, are pretty poor. My act composite was a 25, English 25, math 28, reading 22, and science 26. My writing was 8/12. I really want to get into Ohio State and win the Land grant opportunity scholarship. Is there hope for me, is it possible to raise this score?

I wouldn’t give up if I were you I was in a similar situation last year. I took the ACT as a junior and got a 26 in September. When I took it again in June after studying for it I got a 31 and then a 32 this December. Just be sure to take a lot of practice tests. I’m not saying you will definitely raise your score, that depends on how much you study. I think if you really have the determination and work hard that you may be able to raise it

Margaret- how did you study and do you have any tips for the reading section?

One way to improve your essay from an 8 to a 10+ is to add a paragraph for a counterargument. For my past ACTs, I just wrote a normal essay, though I thought they were pretty good…they always got 8’s and I had no idea why because for my SAT essay I got an 11. Then this time around I added a counter argument and my essay got a 10 even though I thought it was pretty bad…

I would say yes…but it is simply unlikely. There are probable a few dozen number one overalls in class in your county in Ohio, and many of them probably got a higher ACT score to be honest.

I appreciate the honesty drac, I know with these stats it is out of reach for now that is why I hope to achieve a better score! :)

-do you know the stats of anyone who did get the scholarship?? and also if the scholarship goes to the county you live in, or the county your school is?

Starch-- thanks for the tip, I’m definitely going to do that!

Again like starchy said, adding a counterargument is actually quite important on the act.
The ACT reading is actually a lot lighter than the SAT stuff so just reading some newspaper articles regularly, novels, etc. might help.
Personally, I did minimal ACT prep, but extensive SAT prep. My SAT exam was the week before the ACT so most of that practice carried over and I scored a 35 composite. There are a lot more SAT materials than ACT so if you need practice maybe use those?
Good luck! (:
