Someone mentioned some other program that was higher than honors for the best of the best. I doubt this really exists only because I dont see any info about it anywhere.

There is but you must apply for it either after your freshman or sophomore year. Maximus scholars are automatically in this program. My son received the brochur and the program is the Honors Collegium.

it’s the honors collegium. apply as freshman or sophomore, must have 3.7 gpa, etc. there’s about 80 students in it i think.

Is it really difficult to get in? If you have a 3.7 in honors, will you probably get in?

No.

Just look at this:
5000 students per class, 20 get in.

what exactly is it?

As I understand it from the literature we have received, this is a program to provide highly accomplished and motivated students the opportunities to excel in high profile interships, research opportunities, etc. These are the students that may go on to apply for Rhodes, etc. and I take it to mean they are providing additional counseling, programs etc. to make these students competitive.

I’m applying for the Honors Collegium. The important thing about Collegium is the “fit” of the students. The students in Collegium all have varying interests, but the one thing they have in common (besides the GPA and stellar profile) is the motivation for research. Last year about 300-400 students applied, and I think 20-25 were accepted (might be up to thirty, I don’t remember the specifics exactly). Mainly freshmen are admitted, with just a few sophomores. The reason for this is for the Collegium advisors to have the most time to work with you and develop the highest quality applicants for the scholarships/research fellowships. I know a couple of Collegium students and they really enjoy each others’ company and the nuturing environment from the extra advising staff. Also keep in mind that if you want to apply for these scholarships you don’t need to be in Collegium to do so. The advising help is always there, you just have to ask for it (as soon as possible, so you can develop a complete application). Hope this helped.

kstar- good luck to you! Please let us know how it goes. What are you studying?

That’s a good question momnipotent- I switched my major Autumn and Winter Quarter, so I’m “leaning towards” International Studies Security & Intelligence. My application is due Monday (yikes!), so I’ll let you all know how it goes (hopefully I’ll make it to the interviews).
