Is there such a thing as quoting too much?

Hey guys!
I was wondering if there is such a thing as quoting too much. My APLAC teacher is obsessed with quoting, and will not give above a 5 if the person quotes less than 10 times. (I was able to get an 8 on one of my essays after successfully quoting 17 times.)
Therefore, is this good/bad on the AP test?
Also, does this apply to the DBQ? Thanks!

No, you cannot quote too much, but you must explain them well in the essay, which can become more important than the direct quote. In the DBQs, you can quote as much as you want, but you must explain the significance of the quote. I would not recommend quoting too frequently because it does take a lot of time that is unnecessary, but it does not hurt your score either.
