Is there such thing as being "too involved"?

So I have a “low” GPA of 3.3 but I’m very involved in many different clubs and hold MANY different leadership positions. I heard that having a low GPA and many ECs and leadership roles shows colleges that you spend all your time on ECs and don’t spend enough time studying. Is this true? Is having too many ECs a bad thing if your GPA is relatively low?

As always, GPA trumps EC, so with a LOT of EC and a low GPA is never a good sign. With regards to EC, you need to have substantial achievements to make it stand out. Awards like Intel Challenge will get attention, Pres. of a club will not.

I mean, if you are amazing at your ECs it doesn’t matter. But if you’re just the average participant with a lot of activities, that’s gonna hurt you big time.

Yes. It shows misplaced priorities: that u are doing what u WANT to do, rather than what u SHOULD do.
