Is this a big problem? Sticky situation

While trying to help a friend, I discovered that my mom’s home address on Google maps has a business name attached to it. I know the name. I called the person to ask what they knew, and they professed no knowledge of this whatsoever and said that I could delete the pin. I can’t as I didn’t create it. I also think this person is lying.

Can y’all tell me what problems this might cause, if any? Off the top of my head I think there could be tax issues (though I do my mom’s taxes every year) and liability issues if someone is injured and claims this business as a party. To be clear, I don’t think there is a real business associated with this name or pin. What am I missing? What other reasons would there be to do this?

I believe if you spend enuf time searching the site, you should find a way to file a complaint with google maps and request a correction. It will likely take a few months.

I’d search you county/city/state records to see if a business is actually registered in that name to that address.

At one point years ago I spotted an error on Google Maps. This did once or twice cause people to have trouble finding us.

There was a way to “report a problem” (something to click on), which I did. I just explained what was wrong on maps. A while later I got a short “thank you” and found the problem fixed. I just checked right now and at least in the spot where I found the problem the issue is still corrected, and I did see “report a problem” as one thing that a person can click on when viewing a map.

I think that I would report the problem to Google Maps and hope that they correct it.

I take it you tried this? Scroll down to “ Remove an incorrect or fraudulent listing”

I found that but “close or remove” wasn’t an option.
