is this a fatal error on an ivy league application? HELP!!

my friend wrote on an update…

Advanced to the Second Round of (a local research fair). The third round is the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix Arizona

but the third round is in atlanta georgia, not phoenix arizona.

are colleges going to think he’s full of crap and b.s.ed the rest of his application because of this mistake?

Not likely. If he was a very attractive candidate, 1) the readers might not notice the discrepancy or 2) they noticed it but because they felt favorably inclined, did a quick check (like google) to confirm that he DID attend the 3rd round in Atlanta or 3) they noticed the discrepancy and called the teacher/GC to verbally confirm. All things being equal, they’ll decide to admit/reject but not based on the error.

If he wasn’t an attractive candidate, they wouldn’t have bothered to check the facts and he was rejected anyways.

I hope the logic of this makes sense. Have your friend try to relax. Best of luck to him and you

the update only says he advanced to the second round. he didn’t say he went to the third round

He’s pretty much done for.

thats what i think

He was kidding, jimmyfund. Relax, he’ll be fine.

bump10charac

nah its no big deal, T26E4 is right

bump10char

i’m interested now about this

Why are you so interested in your friend’s application?

To answer your question, I really doubt it matters.

“My friend…”

Haven’t heard that one before.

OP, an applicant who made the statement would have had
the rest of their app scrutinzied intensely by fact checkers
I would think- given the applicants lack of understanding of
the ISEF selection process (not the Phoenix V Atlanta mistake).

…but then I am sure fact checkers scrutinize all the apps at the
IVYs , so honesty is the best policy!
