Is this a good essay topic?

So: I plan to write about my father. My concern is that it’s an overused topic, but my situation is not a common one. My father was also my math teacher in middle school and I used to be extremely good at math then. I won lots of math prizes and I had a colleague who was also very good and was winning many prizes. He started to believe I didn’t receive the prizes fairly and did many things that hurt me and my father very much. That incident made me grow up and change some of my life opinions.

What do you think?

A colleague? In middle school? Anyhoo…

If you don’t mind getting a bit more personal, I would make sure to include some of the specific actions this person did against you in the essay. It keeps the essay centered around events rather than fanciful storytelling which makes it much easier to follow. Also make sure your message (how this changed you) is relevant to any essay topic that you may have, but other than that I think it’s a good start.

Some of the simplest essay topics can work miracles. I think it depends on how genuinely important the topic is to you and how well you write. Your topic sounds fine to me!

its a good topic if you get kind of emotional about it…
