I’ve been looking at colleges so often for the last few months, and I think I’ll throw up if I go on collegeboard’s college search website again. I just want to stick to a basic list right now. Is this okay-

North Carolina State
Binghampton University
U Minn: Twin Cities
SUNY College at New Paltz
West Virginia University
York University of Pennsylvania
UNC- Ashville

What is your home state? What can your family afford?

What exactly are you asking? It’s a pretty random selection of colleges.

I saw from another post that you are from NJ interested in poly sci.

What about each of these schools in particular interest you?

What kind of cost constraints are you working with?

Are you looking to get credit for those scores of 3?

Are you asking what your chances are for each of these schools? If so, wrong thread.

Are you asking the suitability of each school for you? Not enough information about you?

Are you asking if this list and your stats will be sufficient that you will most likely be attending college? The answer is yes. It seems like a reasonable list. You should get into West Virginia no problem. Some of the others probably too.

There is some variety of schools, so if you can’t visit until you get in, you’ll most likely have options between LAC and university.

There not random- all of them are good(-ish, in some cases) schools in general (yes, I should do more research) and cheaper than most. They’re all at least medium sized schools, in non-rural areas.

My cost constraints are tuition + room + board < 30,000, and I would like to get credit for a 3, but it’s not a deal breaker of any sort if I don’t get credit.

I meant, is there a balance of safeties/matches/reaches? Also, this question comes into my head just now, how would I determine a match? Like, most people when determining an academic match would see the average GPAs and SAT/ACT scores of incoming freshmen, but when my GPA matches an average of a school, my SAT tends to be above norm, and when my SAT matches, by GPA is below average.

I think it’s a fine list with a lot of balance on a lot of fronts. You have reaches (Binghamton), you have safeties (WVU), you have LACs (New Paltz, Asheville), you have giant (UMN). You have a bunch of schools that are probably matches.

Does your school use Naviance? That’s the most reliable determination of the probability of admissions. They have scattergrams for your school and plot GPA vs SAT1600 or SAT 2400. This allows you to estimate your probability of admissions.

Thanks for your input, CRD!
