I’m in community college right now. I couldn’t go to a 4 year (not because I had bad grades, I got accepted to all the universities I wanted to go to, I couldn’t afford a 4 year…). I know that employers care a lot about what school the accountant attended which worries me because I started at a CC…My goal is to transfer out of comm. coll. and either attend DePaul or UIC (both schools are in IL where I live) afterwards. I’m kind of heading towards UIC since it’s cheaper. I’ve heard people say that DePaul and UIC have about the same Accounting program except the price is different. I plan on commuting to save up money. I probably (most likely) will be taking out loans. Anyways, I know that for the CPA exam I have to do 150 credit hours in order to sit for it, well, my plan is to get my BS in accounting and then get a MS in accounting (to satisfy the extra 30 credit hours). I checked both schools and the MS in Accounting satisfies the required extra 30 credit hours. Might as well have a MS than a BS equivalent to a MS. What do you think? It’s the same thing isn’t it? Would it possibly make me look a little better, too? Thanks!
I forgot to ask, do I need to take the GMAT to get my MS in Accounting?
to *enter graduate school for MAcc?
Sounds like a good plan, Depaul and UIC’s programs are both well regarded in Chicago. For the MS, GMAT is usually required, but if you do your undergrad at UIC, they have a program that does not require GMAT for their students. http://business.uic.edu/home-uic-business/liautaud-programs/masters-of-science-in-accounting.
