Is this a good resume?

i mean, it might just be because it was copied and pasted, but it’s formatted strangely
but nonetheless, you did a lot of good stuff!

I thought Columbia says “refrain from sending any additional information unless it is really necessary?”

w t f is up with all the dashes?

and from a quick glance at your “resume” i don’t think there is any reason for you to include it…your EC headings are very self explanatory

I looked at your post for 10 seconds and got dizzy because of the lines, but noticed this right away. Think about how dumb the statement I quoted sounds, dude.

Columbia does not want a resume unless there is information that a person was unable to convey in their application and they want to include it. If for example they indicated on their activity sheet that they were an award winning screenwriter and wanted to list the name of they competition they entered and the award they won, if they were a Westinghouse finalist and they wanted to include more detail about their entrance. That type of thing.
What they do not want is a re-iteration of what is in the application. It seems that you need a little guidance and it is good that you are on college confidential asking questions because they posters here will help you.
The only thing that I would include on the resume is the information on robotics that biotechnology, but if you have indicated that in your application I would not include it.
There is absolutely no need for you to be including the courses you took and what they taught you. Absolutely do not do this. Also, admission officers do not need to know that you learned how to play the game of chess in chess club, or how you learned to play the guitar, or how you learned to do anything. They also do not need to know details of what you did with 2nd - 4th graders when you acted as an assistant.
After reviewing what you wrote I would not send a resume. If you want to send information about the robotics and biotechnology, I would write the admissions office a letter after you applied, putting your name and address on the letterhead, your Columbia ID number or social security number and write a letter that says something like "Dear _______,
I recently applied for (early decision or regular decision) to Columbia College for the Class of 2013. There is some additional information I would like to include in my information. (here is where I would put the part on robotics and biotechnology. You should definitely NOT highlight the fact that the robotics was for three months).
I do have a question for you though. I saw on another post that you are trying to do high school in three years and are applying regular decision to Columbia. What is the rush? You have indicated your SAT scores in that thread which you accurately explain need to come up and you took them again in November. I was just wondering why you are rushing and why not wait and take the time to get them up. (November may not be enough) and take your time finishing high school and then applying
I recently applied for

Honestly I don’t see how writing those additional lines to describe “American Government” or “Psychology” do anything but make you look like a fluffer. Cut them.

Similarly, writing “Successfully extracted DNA from…” multiple times makes you look like you’re running out of ideas.

Make it short and sweet.

hahahahaha, i hadn’t noticed this until i saw kashiva’s post…this is probably the silliest way of saying “i swabbed my cheek”

for the most part i agree with collegebound5…and as i said before your resume really doesn’t reveal anything that your activities section and transcript won’t reveal…if anything, the adcom would be annoyed that u wasted their time with this

i STRONGLY disagree with this…if you are gonna include additional information do so as part of the application…the chances of that letter actually getting to your file are slim and there’s no reason to go through the extra hassle of writing a letter rather than just attaching the info to your application. You might want to think of including a little blurb as additional info on your application, written in full concise sentences, about your robotics project and competition. Really, this is the ONLY interesting additional information anyone would get from your “resume”.

Shraf I had assumed that the poster had already applied to Columbia when I made that suggestion about including that separately, then realized the poster had not applied yet. Yes, I agree with you. Include it in the application.
