Is this a liberal arts degree?

Early Childhood Education

It is an education degree, but it is offered by many colleges and universities that are of the liberal arts type. Read the graduation requirements to find out what your distribution requirements might be.

ECE is a career field that may not require a full bachelor degree (or even a full associate degree) depending on the state where you plan to work, and the environment you plan to work in. Those two items will determine what type of license you will need to hold, and the requirements for that license. If you want to work in a pre-school/kindergarten setting within a public school system, the requirements that you will need to fulfill will be very different than if you want to run your own in-home day care business.

The liberal arts majors are languages and literature, mathematics, philosophy, physical and social sciences, history, and the arts. Pre-professional, technical or vocational majors such as education are not considered liberal arts majors. Some undergraduate education programs require students to obtain, in essence, a double major in a liberal arts subject area in addition to education. This requirement will vary by program.
