Is this a played-out essay topic?

Is writing about school and academic pressure a played-out topic? Mine isn’t just about how I worked hard for good grades or whatever - it’s more unique than that, but that is basically the foundation of it.

Do a lot of people write about it?

It doesn’t matter how many people write about your topic.

If your treatment of the topic is personal, detailed, and revealing–if your treatment of the topic is so personal that only you could write it–then the essay will be a positive factor in the admissions process for you, regardless of how many other people write about it.

If, on the other hand, your essay could have been written by pretty much anybody–if it says a lot of the usual things, stuff that is commonly known or thought–then the essay will not help you in the admissions process, even if no one else in the entire country writes about your particular topic.

It’s not the topic, it’s what you do with the topic.

^
Definitely true. If you can pull it off, you can write about anything.
