I put on the common app that I intended to apply for financial aid. But I may not apply after all. Is that a problem?

It might be a problem if you are applying to schools where admission is “need-aware” and you are a borderline candidate.

Once you decide for sure, you can send an e-mail to the admissions office at the schools you applied to, and let them know if you are no longer applying for financial aid. Like lerkin said, it could make a difference in acceptances.

Do you qualify for need based aid? If NOT, and the school is need aware, they will KNOW that you are not going to be eligible for aid…which is a plus at need aware schools.

I’m applying to three private schools: USC, Tufts, and Stanford. Which are “need-aware”?

As of 2009 Tufts was only mostly need blind. [Need-blind admission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Need-blind admission - Wikipedia) You should be able to look up whether they are on their web sites.
