Is this a rigorous courseload?

Some background information… private boarding school, and these APs are offered:

 • AP Spanish Lang, AP French Lang, AP English Lit
 • AP Bio, Physics C, and Chem
 • AP USH, Art History, and Euro
 • Music Theory and Comp Sci A
 • AP Stat, BC, AB.

In ninth and tenth grade, you normally can’t do APs (we have a requirement of doing the honors/regular course beforehand… so I need to do Chem Honors or USH Honors before AP Chem or USH.) You can however, if you’re an exception… like the occasional AP BC 10th grader, or the Fluent foreign french student who can do AP French in 9th grade.

In 9th and 10th I did:
Bio Honors, English 1 Honors, World History Honors, Spanish 2 Honors, Algebra 2 Honors, Chem Honors, English 2 Honors, US History Honors, Spanish 3 Honors, Precalc Honors.

In 11th I’ll do:
AP Chem, AP BC Calc, AP USH, Spanish 4 Honors, Physics Honors, English 3 Honors.

In 12th I’ll do:
AP Bio, AP Physics C, AP English Lit, AP Spanish Lang, and Multivariable Calculus.

So the fact that I’m doing 7 APs out of a total of 14… (If you exclude Comp Sci (since you need to take prereq courses, Music Theory, AP French, AP AB (skipping over for BC)) it becomes more like 7 out of 10. And I’m at the top of the math sequence in our school (it’s not even listed in our course catalog, which is odd), so it’s not like I’d settle for AP Stat over MVC. Anyways, this is probably one of the hardest courseloads in my school, but I was wondering if it was rigorous in comparison to other schools that offer more.

On a side note, I’m currently self-studying AP Psych and possibly AP Environmental Science. Thank youu lemme know.

What schools are you looking at Carin? Even though I think everyone would agree that it is a competitive courseload for any school!

Carin, you commented on my post and I stumble on yours. Irony. I would say it looks fine. Scientifically, for senior year, you are doing well. I could be mistaken; my opinion is not the equivalent of the powers that be.

Thats a really respectable courseload, my school offers like the same amount of AP’s (they are all “core” AP’s though, no like Computer Science A or anything)… And all the top students generally do this:
9th: Honors courses
10th: Honors courses, sometimes 1 AP
11th: Honors courses, 2 AP’s
12th: Honors courses, 3-6 AP’s*
(think we had one person get into Harvard last year, and they took 5 AP’s senior year (don’t worry, also had like 10 other people go to Ivies, and many more to top schools… so my school is competitive))

I myself took all honors in 9th and 10th, honors+2 AP’s junior, and taking some honors and 4-5 AP’s senior.
Also, my school has the same system, as in you have to take honor biology before AP Biology.

I’m looking at HYP (applying to M, not sure why as I won’t get in) Columbia, Penn, even brown and cornell (much to my parents’ dismay, since they don’t think it’s worth the trips and such), Johns Hopkins, NYU… my dad recommends I don’t bother applying to really bad schools just for the sake of safety since I might not go 100% if I do. Idk. It’s kind of strange, since the schools I’m applying to are crapshoots.

And yeah… no one at my school takes APs in 9th or 10th which really really upsets me.

ba bump. 10 char

Ha Carin, I’m applying to all of your hopefuls this year.
Anyway, I think your courseload looks quite rigorous. Definitely do those self-study tests. =)

Could you fit AP Stats into your senior year curriculum, cause it seems like you are pretty math/science with your AP’s… doing another math AP would look good.

if you can, self study AP English Lang junior year

hey Carin i feel the course load you are taking is amazing compared to the options you have
with this rigor…i feel you have put urself in good standing at some selective schools

could u please rate my course load: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/758259-my-courseload-good-enough-compete-top-students-ar-uva-vt-please-help.html

Yes… Double post.

Yes… Why don’t I just study ALL the APs… But I can’t fit in Stat. Phys and Bio will take double labs for 4 out of 5 days. Idk. I could squueze but Id die. Why should I self study English? Should I self study stat? Is it hard?
