<p>I’m thinking that I want to write my Common App essay about this one internet forum I’ve been a member of for years and its international user-base, and how it is representative of the idea that “the world gets smaller every day”, and also about how this saying isn’t just about cultures but about individuals as well. Is this really stupid or could I make it work?</p>
<p>Well, a potential problem is that you presumably are applying to a face-to-face institution, not an online institution. The college will be interested in what sort of a presence you might bring to a face-to-face environment. </p>
<p>Perhaps you can make it work–meaning, make it personal, detailed and revealing. Perhaps gthat can come across in another part of your application. However, do not use those exact words–“The world gets smaller every day”–or anything more or less equivalent. Remember, “Show, don’t Tell”–and no cliches. Always find your own words!</p>
