Hello,
I will be graduating high school and graduating from community college at the same time. I have worked hard and have pursued two Associate’s Degrees during my time in high school. Is this a unique extracurricular activity/does it make me a competitive student?
Some background information: For all four years of high school I attended an early college academy (one of the top ranked schools in my state, actually), which made it possible for me to get my degrees. It is rare for students to get two degrees at my school.
Thanks!
It’s not an EC. Taking classes is the very definition of ‘curricular activity’!
Is it unusual? Yes. Is it a red carpet into college? No. Some colleges really like the students who have AA degrees (they are not uncommon) but others just look at it as good prep for college but not any better than students who have an IB certificate or who have taken a AP classes. Your courses and accomplishments will be compared to other applicants at those colleges you are applying to.
It is a strong academic credential, especially if you have good grades. It is in no way an EC. How it impacts your college chances depends on what schools you want to attend. The very top schools are looking for more than academics.
Also make sure that the schools you are considering do not classify you as a second year student given the multiple AA degrees.
