Is this an acceptable SAP appeal letter?

Hello, I am submitting a SAP appeal to my school. I was hoping for some input on what I could improve in my letter, as well as if you guys think this is an acceptable excuse for not meeting SAP. Thank you.

To whom it may concern:

Hello, my name is _______. This letter is in regard to my current ineligibility for Financial Aid. I have no quarrel with the decision that has been made, as I did indeed fail to meet SAP standards, but I feel as if the circumstances that I was in at the time of withdrawal, were not circumstances suitable for attending school. The classes dropped were:
  • CHM 130
  • MAT 122
  • COM 110
  • ENG 102
  • PHI 101
All of the classes dropped have the same explanation: A sudden, and severe Bed Bug infestation. Of which, followed my mother to work, and got her put on temporary suspension. I was doing quite well in these courses. After a rough first semester of getting adjusted to the college life, I felt as if I had started to get a hang of things in the Spring of 2018. I don’t have an exact date as to when the bed bugs were discovered, but I do remember it getting worse quite quickly. All within three weeks I’d say, my life went from relatively normal, to a living hell.

Once it was clear the infestation was not going to be a quick fix, my mother and I were under a considerable amount of stress, even before the bugs followed her to work. The apartment complex we were in attempted to blame us, and threatened eviction. Faced with this news, and the risk of bringing them to class with me, I felt as if it was the best decision to drop the semester, and come back when my life was put back together. The evidence that I am presenting is the letter/agreement signed by my mother with her workplace shortly after I made the decision to drop the semester, as it is the only real evidence I have of the situation.

The changes that have been made to ensure Satisfactory Academic Progress, is a new, Bed Bug free home. My life has returned to stability after a very long couple of months, and would love the opportunity to return to Mesa Community College for the Spring of 2019, as I truly enjoyed my time on campus.

As a reader, I’m unclear on your timeline. A bedbug infestation can be dealt with fairly quickly with the right people, admittedly with some cost and inconvenience, but still within a month at most. I don’t understand why it took you two semesters to get a handle on the situation and why it would prevent you from getting any studying done in the meantime.

I’d definitely rework the letter making the timeline more clear and specific. Was the infestation recurring? Dates? List steps you took to control it and why those steps failed. Be specific. If you couldn’t afford bedbug treatment, say so in the letter. How did it affect your health? Were you in treatment for the bites? Most important, why were you prevented from studying?

Even with a well written letter, this sounds like a tough sell, but good luck.
