Hello, I’m new here so please forgive me if I do this wrong. I’ve scoured the forums looking for a thread like mine but haven’t found anything.
I am submitting an art portfolio to the following schools: Amherst College, Pomona College, and Duke University, however I am NOT applying as an art major. I have many different pieces in my portfolio including traditional media pieces and digital pieces, all of which are complete and high quality.
However, a large chunk of my “artistic career” is character designing. From 2011-2013 I ran an online character design business in which I created unique character designs and sold the rights to them under the alias saygo-pohm on deviantart,com. The reason I am concerned about appropriateness is because some colleges like Duke specifically say “you should not include Manga or cartooning in your fine art portfolio,” and while my art isn’t exactly manga it borrows stylistic elements from it.
