My son won a competition recently (after submitting his application material) and got an official letter from the organizers.

He had mentioned about this competition in his application.

Is it ok to fax this letter to Stanford or is this considered “additional material” and therefore should not be sent?

It depends on the nature of the competition and the relevance to the school. However, if it is just a certificate it wouldn’t hurt that much because it is easy to scan/put in a folder and very quick to review. You just have to weigh the additional value against the value of the time of the processors and counselors.

I would say nope. They specifically said on their website that they DON’T want any additional information. They would just throw them away if you send them.

^ Do not send that. Lol, it will just get tossed. My only concern about sending it (if you think there’s a slight chance they’ll read it) is them thinking you think it’s okay to disobey instructions to try and get an edge. More likely they’ll just think it’s a motherly thing trying to make her kid look good and an innocent mistake, but don’t do it.
