Is this enough rigor to get into state schools

I’m taking ap us history ,honors epidemiology, honors English, honors math, law, and art. If I get good grades in these classes which this is my junior years will I have a shot at most sunys

It depends on a lot of things… .what you consider to be “good grades”, what you score on the SATs, your letters of recommendation…

That said, we’re very lucky in NY. There is a SUNY for almost everyone, from the very competitive to the far less competitive.

I’m saying like 90s -95s I got a 1200 on my psat but tanked first semester of sophmore year with a 77 but bounced back this semester and got a 91 and I plan to keep this upward trend

This may help you target particular matches and reaches within SUNY: https://www.suny.edu/media/suny/content-assets/documents/summary-sheets/Admissions_qf_stateop.pdf

Of course, you’ll want to make sure that the schools you’re thinking of also have your probable major.

I’m going to be a geography major which is usually less competitive

I already got that sheet from my counselor but since I tanked first year of sophomore year it’s hard for me to get an overall gpa for schools like bing, Buffalo, geneseo so I’m praying they like upward trends and good test scores

He also said he would bet money that I would get into buffalo geneseo oneonta Albany and new paltz if I keep these grades up but he says I need to have over 95s junior year to get into Binghamton

Well, take a look at the chart. I would imagine, based on what you’ve said, that you should probably have your choice of schools.

You’ll want to visit them, if you haven’t already started to do so. Some are very near the Canadian border, close to PA, and others close to NJ… You could be relatively close to home or hours and hours away. There’s a huge range of vibes from one campus to the next— some are in rural areas, some are in large towns, others relatively close to NYC.

Just off the top of my head, with no time spent on that major, I would say Binghamton, Geneseo and Stony Brook might be iffy, but you may have a decent shot at most of the others. Certainlly take a look at the “University Colleges” section of the chart.

And nudging that SAT score up a bit would certainly help.

Have you spoken to your guidance counselor? He or she will absolutely be able to guide you.

So should I be a reasonable candidate for the SUNYs I mentioned with a solid upward trend and solid test scores or I’m I doomed

You’re certainly not “doomed.”

While I’m no expert, I would certainly expect that you can find some SUNYs that are safeties, others that are reaches. Start to look at them as individual schools, and decide which ones you’re interested in.

New Paltz is a couple hours from Manhattan, so it’s getting very popular and more difficult to get into, and Geneseo and Binghamton are already reached for a lot of students. Apply to your favorite SUNYs but make sure you have safeties.

Rigor as well a GPA is relative to your HS. Therefore your guidance counselor would be the one who could best answer your question and you have his/her answer already.

Right now, what is your overall gpa?

Right now a 3.1 un weighted

But I have massive upward trends

And junior year if I get 90 to 95s it will possibly go up to a 3.4-3.5

My guidance counselor said he has seen a lot of people with my gpa right now from my school get into buffalo Albany oneonta and geneseo

OK, so you have someone who know you and your scores giving you some viable choices

Is cappex or prep scholar reliable sources because both say I’m solid candidate for most sunys excluding Binghamton and stony brook

Have you taken biology (living organisms) and chemistry? What about Physics? What about Foreign Language? What honors math - Precalculus, Calculus?

Can you prep for the SAT?

Neither capex not prepscholars are reliable.

But you can chance yourself: look at the top 25% SAT scores and try to prep for that.
Up the rigor a bit keep up the grades in the 90+ and you have a shot at most SUNYs
